The most powerful BMW M5 has just been launched in Malaysia, in the form of the all-new G90 2025 BMW M5.
G90 2025 BMW M5 – First-ever M5 with a PHEV
Now in its seventh generation, the G90 2025 BMW M5 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, encompassing a TwinPower Turbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine that does 585 PS and 750 Nm, hooked up to an electric motor that contributes another 197 PS, bringing the total power output to 727 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque.
The sole transmission option is an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic, allowing the 2,510 kg super sedan to complete the century sprint in just 3.5 seconds, before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h. With the optional M Driver’s Pack, top speed can be raised to 305 km/h.
Being a PHEV, the G90 2025 BMW M5 features an 18.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s neatly integrated into the underbody, keeping the centre of gravity low. Under the WLTP test cycle, the G90 M5 is able to return a pure electric range of 69 km.

To recharge, the G90 M5 accepts up to 11 kW of AC charging, which takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to fully recharge.
Handling-wise, the G90 M5 gets Adaptive M suspension, which offers Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus modes, as well as Integral Active Steering that enables rear-wheel steering for improved high-speed stability and better low-speed maneuverability.
Compared to the regular 5 Series, the high-performance variant can be visually distinguished by its massive angular air intakes, central M divider, Adaptive LED headlights with M Lights Shadowline.
The rear of this super sedan gets a sleek Gurney lip spoiler, vertical reflectors, as well as a black two-piece diffuser with M twin tailpipes. It gets a staggered set-up, featuring 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels finished in Bicolour Midnight Grey.
Stepping into this super sedan’s cabin and you’re greeted by a driver-centric cockpit, with a BMW Curved Display with M-specific graphics, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and large 14.9-inch infotainment display. It runs on the BMW Operating System 8.5.
Further separating itself from the regular non-M5 variants is the M multifunction steering wheel, which gets a flat-bottomed design, red 12 o’clock marker, M shift paddles, M1/M2 mode buttons, M Hybrid and M mode selectors.
There’s also power-adjustable M5-specific seats, quad-zone automatic air-conditioning, Comfort Access, and an 18-speaker, 655W Bowers and Wilkins sound syste,
Safety equipment of the G90 M5 includes Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Plus, Reversing Assist Camera, and Intelligent Reversing Assistant.
BMW states that the G90 M5 can be had in eight different body colours, including Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey, Carbon Black, Fire Red, Isle of Man Green, Marina Bay Blue, Sophisto Grey, and Storm Bay.
The cabin, on the other hand, can be optioned in four Merino leather upholstery options, like Black, Silverstone, Red, and Kyalami Orange.
