Proton S70 One Tank Challenge – Owners pushed S70 to the fuel efficiency limits

Proton recently organised the “Penang Proton One Tank Challenge”, with the event being part of the district-level Hari Sukan Negara celebrations for Daerah Seberang Perai Tengah on 11-October.

The Proton S70 One Tank Challenge saw 33 Proton S70 owners participating in this contest, pitting their economical driving skills against each other. These owners were flagged off by YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy and the Penang state assembly member for Para Terubong.

Before the Proton S70 One Tank Challenge started, each car had the tanks filled to the brim and had their fuel door flaps sealed. The challenge started at Setia Sentral Juru, with the route covering both the Penang island and mainland, heading first to Bayan Lepas and George Town via the Second Penang Bridge. The drivers then returned to the starting point via the First Penang Bridge.

At the end of the Proton S70 One Tank Challenge event, Abu Bakar bin Mohd Yusoff was the winner, consuming a hybrid-defeating fuel efficiency of just 3.84L/100 km (31.61 km/L). He went home with a cash prize amounting to RM 1,000.

In second was Muhammad Syamin bin Omar Farook, as he achieved 3.98L/100 km (25.12 km/L). The second place winner was rewarded with RM 800.

As for the third place, Mohd Aliff bin Sani secured his position with a fuel efficiency figure of 4.40 L/100 km (22.72 km/L), allowing him to walk home with RM 600.

To recap, the Proton S70 is Proton’s C-segment sedan, based on the fourth-generation Geely Emgrand. The Proton S70 offers a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that does 150 PS and 226 Nm, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends drive to the front wheels.
