Less than a month since the Proton Tech Showcase, it appears that work may be underway for a left-hand drive (LHD) AMA01 Proton Saga.
According to our friends over at CarGuide.ph, a slide from a recent Geely event hinted at the AMA01-based Proton Saga being rebadged as a Geely model for the country. Said model is slated to hit the Philippines market by Q4 2026 – roughly one year from today.
It would also mark a significant milestone for Proton, which used to locally-assemble (CKD) the Proton Wira in the Philippines in the mid-90s, but operations were canned due to the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997.
For the Philippines market, the AMA01 Proton Saga will be positioned against the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and Toyota Vios.
In the Philippines, prices of the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 starts from PHP 793,000 (~RM 55k) for the 1.2-litre 5-speed manual variant, while the Vios starts from PHP 738,000 (~RM 51k) for the entry-level 1.3J 5-speed manual variant.
Keep in mind that the Vios sold in the Philippines is the NSP151 version, and not the DNGA-B-based AC100 version. The latter is marketed as the Ativ there.
As a brief recap, the AMA01 Proton Saga was launched in Malaysia in late-November 2025 across three variants. All variants feature a new 1.5-litre i-GT four-cylinder petrol engine that does 120 PS and 150 Nm, mated either to a Punch-sourced CVT or Aisin-sourced 4-speed automatic.
Till 31-December 2025, Proton is offering a RM 1,000 rebate on the 2025 Saga, which reduces the prices to:
- Standard: RM 37,990
- Executive: RM 43,990
- Premium: RM 48,990
