2026 Chery Tiggo 8 launched in Malaysia: 1.6T, 197 PS, RM 129,800

Chery Malaysia has introduced the 2026 Chery Tiggo 8 in Malaysia, positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Tiggo 8 Pro.

This marks the third Tiggo 8 variant available locally, joining the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 PHEV.

Overview

The 2026 Chery Tiggo 8 drops the “Pro” moniker and undercuts the Tiggo 8 Pro by RM 30,000. Priced at RM 129,800 (on-the-road, without insurance), it is positioned at the same price point as the Tiggo 7 PHEV.

Like its more expensive sibling, the Tiggo 8 is locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah.

Exterior

On the exterior, the most obvious visual difference is the adoption of new 18-inch multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. These wheels are one inch smaller than the ones found on the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 PHEV.

Other exterior features are largely carried over from the Tiggo 8 Pro, including:

Exterior colour options remain unchanged, with Dark Black and Khaki White offered.

Interior

The cost-cutting measures are more apparent inside the cabin. The Tiggo 8 replaces the Tiggo 8 Pro’s “Premium Luxury Leather Seats” with faux leather upholstery.

The 24.6-inch dual-screen setup found in the Tiggo 8 Pro is replaced by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch infotainment display. The audio system, however, remains unchanged, with an 8-speaker Sony-branded sound system retained.

Other features omitted to achieve the lower price point include:

Despite this, the Tiggo 8 still comes equipped with:

Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the Tiggo 8 forgoes the Tiggo 8 Pro’s turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine in favour of a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit.

Shared with the Jaecoo J7, this engine produces 197 PS and 290 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Equipment

The safety suite has been revised to reflect the Tiggo 8’s more accessible positioning. Standard active safety features include:

Compared to the Tiggo 8 Pro, the Tiggo 8 does without:

The 540-degree camera system has been replaced by a 360-degree camera, and the airbag count has been reduced from nine to six airbags.

Standard equipment on the 2026 Chery Tiggo 8 includes:
