Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the 2026 Volkswagen Golf R-Line in the country, months after the facelifted eighth-gen model was previewed.

Overview
The new Golf R-Line is the entry-level and lifestyle-oriented variant that complements the Golf GTI in VPCM’s local line-up.
For the first 50 customers, the 2026 Volkswagen Golf R-Line is priced at RM 179,990, inclusive of the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP). After the first 50 customers, the price of the Golf R-Line will be bumped up to RM 185,990 (on-the-road, without insunrace).
The 2026 Volkswagen Golf R-Line is locally-assembled (CKD) at Volkswagen’s Pekan facility.
Exterior
As the name suggests, the Golf R-Line features the R-Line exterior package, which adds a more aggressive touch compared to the regular Golf (not offered here).
Up front are the IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, while the rears get a pair of IQ.Light 3D LED tail lights with dynamic turn signals and animated graphics. The Volkswagen emblem up front is illuminated as well, giving the Golf R-Line a distinctive look.
Completing the 2026 Volkswagen Golf R-Line are a set of Coventry alloy wheels, measuring 17 inches.
Colour options include Anemone Blue, Granadilla Black, Kings Red, Moonstone Grey, and Oryx White.
Interior
Stepping into the cabin of the new Golf R-Line is a fully-digital, driver-focused cabin that combines modern technology with sporty cues. There’s a large 12.9-inch infotainment system that runs the latest MIB4 operating system.
The driver gets a fully-digital 10.0-inch Digital Cockpit Pro digital driver display, supplemented with IDA voice assistant with voice enhancer, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging. Further aiding charging duties are dual USB-C ports up front and dual USB-A ports at the rear.
There’s also the Air Care Climatronic tri-zone automatic climate control, complete with allergen and enhanced air filters, as well as rear air-vent controls. A 7-speaker audio system comes as standard.
Powertrain
Power for the Golf R-Line comes with a turbocharged 1.5-litre eTSI petrol-electric mild-hybrid (MHEV) system, which outputs 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque.
Sending drive to the front wheels is a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission. Under the Malaysia Driving Cycle (MDC), VPCM says that the Golf R-Line returns a combined fuel consumption of 5.5 L/100 km.
