New 2026 Proton S70 launched in Malaysia: Now with 4-cyd i-GT turbo with 181 PS and 290 Nm, from RM 68,800*

Following the opening of bookings and arrival of units to showrooms across the country, Proton has just launched the new 2026 Proton S70 in Malaysia.

Overview

This update marks the arrival of the new four-cylinder i-GT1.5-litre engine on Proton’s C-segment sedan. Said engine already made its debut on the Proton X50 and Proton X70 in turbocharged form, and in the Saga MC3 in naturally-aspirated form. This also marks the end of the multi-point injection three-cylinder GEP3 in Proton’s models; the upcoming X90 will finalise Proton’s move to the new BHE15 family of engines.

Exterior

Starting with the exterior of the 2026 Proton S70 are the revised headlights. The upper variants now receive a new pair of LED projector headlights, with revised turn indicators that cut across the inner part of the headlights.

Then there’s the new 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels for the Flagship and Flagship X variants. The latter also receives a new bodykit, with a far more aggressive rear skirt with integrated diffuser design. There’s also a more prominent rear spoiler that gives the Flagship X variant the Malaysia Sporty Sedan moniker.

Colour options include Armour Silver, Marine Blue, Ruby Red, Snow White, Space Grey, and Quartz Black. The earlier Teal Bayou Green has been dropped.

Interior

Stepping into the cabin, much of the new 2026 Proton S70 is identical to the outgoing model. The biggest improvement is the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

The top-spec Flagship X also adds a black headliner and sunroof. Additionally, all variants also get silver-trim illuminated window switches.

Powertrain

The highlight feature of the new 2026 Proton S70 is the turbocharged 1.5-litre i-GT four-cylinder petrol engine. Codenamed BHE15-EFZ, the new engine does 181 PS and 290 Nm, marking a 31 PS and 64 Nm increase in power compared to the older 3-cylinder multi-point injection unit.

The increase in power has reduced the 2026 Proton S70’s 0-100 km/h sprint time. Proton says that the new C-segment sedan completes the century sprint in 7.5 seconds, marking a 1.5 second reduction compared to before.

Routing power from the new engine is the carried over 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic transmission. In terms of fuel consumption, the new 2026 Proton S70 sips 5.7 L/100 km (17.5 km/L).
