Tesla Malaysia has just launched the new 2026 Tesla Model Y L in Malaysia, just a couple of days after releasing the model’s preliminary specifications.
Overview
The Model Y L is a long-wheelbase, six-seater variant of the Model Y, sitting above the existing lineup that’s currently on sale here. Compared to the regular Model Y Premium AWD, it is 177 mm longer at 4,969 mm and 44 mm taller at 1,668 mm, with a 149 mm longer wheelbase of 3,040 mm.
Like the Model 3 and regular Model Y, the Model Y L is imported (CBU) from China.
The 2026 Tesla Model Y L has an estimated price of RM 260k.
Exterior
The Model Y L’s gets a long roofline that pushes upward toward the rear to accommodate third-row headroom, giving the car a slightly raised rear profile compared to the standard Model Y. Cosmic Silver is the colour that’s exclusive for the Model Y L, offering an almost champagne-gold hue that takes the place of Quicksilver available on other Model Y variants.
As standard, the wheels are 19-inch Machina units with a Y-spoke design, wrapped in Continental EcoContact 7S tyres measuring 255/25R19 up front and 275/45R19 at the rear. The 20-inch Crossflow alloys available on other Model Y Premium models are not available on the Model Y L. Eight exterior cameras are fitted, in-line with the rest of the Model Y lineup.
The Model Y L measures 4,969 mm long and 1,668 mm tall on a 3,040 mm wheelbase, with a ground clearance of 169 mm and a drag coefficient of 0.216. Kerb weight is 2,088 kg.
Colour options are as follows: –
- Stealth Grey (Standard)
- Pearl White (Optional)
- Diamond Black (Optional)
- Glacier Blue (Optional)
- Ultra Red (Optional)
- Cosmic Silver (Optional)
Interior
The defining difference of the Model Y L over the regular Model Y is its 2-2-2 seating configuration. The standard second-row bench has been replaced with individual captain’s chairs featuring power lift, power-folding, heating, ventilation, and power-retractable armrests.
The third-row seats are more substantial than those found in the standard seven-seater variant sold in the US and Europe, with proper headrests, heating, and power reclining and folding functions.
The first-row seats are power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated, and now come with an extendable thigh support — a step up from the standard Model Y. Maximum cargo capacity is 2,539 litres with all seats folded.
Other interior highlights include a 16-inch front touchscreen, an 8-inch second-row touchscreen, an 18-speaker sound system with a subwoofer (up from 15 speakers on the standard Model Y), and two wireless chargers with active cooling — a 50W unit for the front and a 30W unit for the rear. Interior trim is standard in Black, with Zen Grey Premium Interior available as an option.
Powertrain
The Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing a combined 340 kW (462 PS), powered by an 82-kWh NMC battery pack. Range is rated at 681 km on the WLTP test cycle, with an energy consumption figure of 12.8 kWh/100km. Peak DC charging power is 250 kW.
Performance figures are 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h — two tenths of a second slower than the regular Model Y Premium AWD due to the additional weight.
For the Malaysian market, the Tesla Model Y L is also V2L-ready, making it the first model (Barring the not-sold-in-Malaysia Cybertruck) to offer this feature.
