The Mitsubishi Pajero, a name that’s practically synonymous with SUVs, is set to return for the fifth generation.
Shown here is a teaser image that Mitsubishi Motors posted on their social media platform, hinting at the imminent return of the iconic SUV after a six-year gap. The fourth generation Pajero was introduced in 2006 and continue to be offered till 2021.
Furthermore, the teaser also mentioned the Montero name, indicating that the upcoming model will likely be a global model. Recall that Mitsubishi offered the Pajero as the Montero in markets like North America, Latin America, and Spain.
A report from Drive revealed even more information.
For starters, the upcoming fifth-generation Pajero is set to share its underpinnings with the current Mitsubishi Triton, and it would be manufactured at Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang plant alongside the Triton.
Then there’s the powertrain – the same report also mentioned that the upcoming Pajero could feature a different powertrain from the Triton, with speculations pointing towards a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system.
Upon the model’s debut later this year, it would likely challenge similar pick-up-based SUVs such as the Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, and Toyota Fortuner – the latter’s new-generation mule has already been spotted in Thailand.
