The luxury MPV segment in Malaysia is about to heat up soon as the 2025 GWM Wey 80 has been spotted doing its rounds in the country.

While it has its sights set on popular MPVs like the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009, the upcoming 2025 GWM Wey 80 isn’t an EV; instead, the Wey 80 features a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain.

Called the Hi4 plug-in, this powertrain features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that does 156 PS, mated to two electric motors. The front electric motor does 177 PS (130 kW), while the rear one does 183 PS (135 kW).

The electric motors are powered by a 37.96-kWh ternary lithium battery pack sourced from Svolt. Under the CLTC test cycle, the Wey 80 can do a pure electric range of 140 km.

Photos shared by an anonymous reader show what appears to be the Malaysian-spec 2025 GWM Wey 80 interior, including a redesigned dashboard and a new two-piece digital screen setup — a notable departure from the model shown at KLIMS 2024. The steering wheel is also different from the KLIMS display unit.

Unlike the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009, the GWM Wey 80 will be locally assembled (CKD) in Melaka by EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB). The Melaka facility already assembles the Haval H6, making the Wey 80 GWM Malaysia’s second CKD model.
