2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and 2025 Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV launched in Malaysia, priced from RM 129,800

Following the launch of the 2025 Chery Tiggo Cross Hybrid a couple of months back, the Wuhu-based company isn’t slowing down one bit, as they recently launched the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and 2025 Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV in Malaysia.

Prices start from RM 129,800 for the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV, while the D-segment 2025 Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV is priced from RM 159,800. Compared to their pure petrol equivalents, the Tiggo 7 Pro is priced from RM 123,800, while the Tiggo 8 PHEV is priced identically to the Tiggo 8 Pro.

Powertrain

Powering both the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV is Chery’s turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 143 PS and 215 Nm, paired to a single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) housing an electric motor that generates 204 PS and 310 Nm.

The motor is powered by an 18.3-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) takes just 19 minutes, while AC charging from 30% to 80% SoC takes three hours.

Chery says the combined system output is 279 PS and 365 Nm. The 18.3-kWh battery pack allows for a pure electric range of up to 90 km for both the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV (test cycle unspecified).

Exterior

Starting with the smaller and more affordable 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV, it gets a bumper-to-bumper redesign, with this C-segment SUV now looking like a grown-up Tiggo Cross.

Up front, there’s a redesigned front fascia featuring a new octagonal grille, which replaces the hexagonal one on the regular ICE Tiggo 7 Pro. Flanking the new grille are a pair of projector LED headlights — an upgrade over the Tiggo 7 Pro’s reflector LED units. Completing the front end of the Tiggo 7 PHEV are a pair of front fog lights, which aren’t available on the Tiggo 7 Pro.

Changes are more apparent toward the rear end — the Tiggo 7 PHEV’s design is more in line with the recently launched Tiggo Cross, with a sleek full-width LED tail light being the most eye-catching element. The number plate has also been relocated to the tailgate, previously mounted on the rear bumper of the Tiggo 7 Pro.

A set of 18-inch aerodynamic wheels completes the exterior of the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV, wrapped in 225/60R18 tyres all round.

Then there’s the 2025 Tiggo 8 PHEV. Compared to the smaller Tiggo 7 PHEV, visual changes on this D-segment PHEV SUV are less apparent.

First up are the new LED headlights surrounding a restyled front grille, which now features larger cross-shaped elements compared to the Tiggo 8 Pro. There’s also a redesigned front bumper with boomerang-shaped lighting elements at the edges.

Similarly, at the rear of the Tiggo 8 PHEV, the taillights are identical, as is the number plate recess, which remains on the tailgate.

What’s new is the lower half of the rear bumper, which gets blocky diffuser elements and a pair of faux exhaust tips at each end. The Tiggo 8 Pro, in comparison, gets proper exhaust tips.

Colour options for the Tiggo 7 PHEV include Bloodstone Red + Black Roof, Khaki White, and Phantom Grey, while the Tiggo 8 PHEV offers Aurora Green, Carbon Black, and Khaki White.

Interior

The interior of the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV is largely identical to the Tiggo 7 Pro, including the dual 10.23-inch displays and support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system is paired with an eight-speaker Sony sound system.

The difference lies in the drive mode selector — the Tiggo 7 PHEV offers EV and HEV drive modes (other modes include Eco, Normal, and Sport).

In the larger 2025 Tiggo 8 PHEV, it’s the opposite from the Tiggo 7 PHEV, as changes are flipped.

Out goes the one-piece, ultra-wide digital instrument cluster and infotainment display. The Tiggo 8 PHEV instead gets two separate screens — a 10.25-inch unit for the digital instrument cluster and a larger 15.6-inch infotainment display.

The sound system in the Tiggo 8 PHEV has also been upgraded. There’s now a 10-speaker Sony Premium sound system, an increase of two speakers compared to the Tiggo 8 Pro.

Safety and Technology

The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and 2025 Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV offer a comprehensive ADAS suite comprising:

The key difference in safety equipment between the two models is that the Tiggo 8 PHEV offers a Driver Fatigue Monitoring System (DFS), while the Tiggo 7 PHEV gets a Driver Monitoring System (DMS). The latter also includes Multi-Collision Braking (MCB), which the Tiggo 8 PHEV lacks.

Airbag count stands at eight for both PHEV models, including a driver knee airbag and front centre airbag.

Warranty and Aftersales

Regardless of model, Chery Malaysia is backing these PHEVs with:

On top of that, there’s also five years of free service (six intervals, labour covered), as well as a one-to-one battery replacement programme if battery health drops below 70% (within the warranty period).
