What a pleasant surprise this morning, as the Toyota Vios Hybrid has been spotted in Malaysia, hinting at an imminent arrival.
Thanks to The Ajerul’s Facebook post, we now have a decent look at Toyota’s upcoming electrified B-segment sedan, which could be offered in two variants: regular and GR-Sport.

The tell-tale signs are quite obvious – the GR-Sport variant gets the Red Mica Metallic colour, five-lug multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels (regular ICE variants get four lug wheels), sportier duck tail spoiler and black roof.

As for the regular variant, it gets a set simpler-looking multi-spoke five-lug alloy wheels. There’s also a regular-looking rear duck tail spoiler, not too dissimilar to the Vios 1.5G AT.
What powers the Toyota Vios Hybrid?

The Vios Hybrid features a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle 2NR-VEX four-cylinder petrol engine that does 91 PS and 121 Nm, hooked up to an electric motor that does 80 PS and 141 Nm, allowing for a combined output of 111 PS, delivered to the front wheels via an E-CVT automatic transmission.

According to Toyota, the Vios Hybrid boasts a fuel consumption figure of 29.4 km/L, which is marginally better than its core rival, the Honda City e:HEV, which does 27.77 km/L.

While the exterior of the Malaysian-spec Vios Hybrid looks similar to its Thai counterpart, we don’t know for certain if the Malaysian-spec models feature the same feature set as Thailand.

For our neighbours up north, their Vios GR Sport gets a larger 10.1-inch infotainment display, Pioneer-branded sound system, and Qi wireless charging pad.
What is the price of the Toyota Vios Hybrid in Malaysia?
Right now in Malaysia, the regular Vios 1.5G AT tops out at about RM 96,600 (OTR without insurance), while its core rival, the City e:HEV RS is priced at RM 111,900.
As such, it’s almost a given that the Vios Hybrid will be priced higher than the regular Vios variants, likely touching the price point of the City e:HEV.
