Honda Malaysia’s 25th anniversary video recently dropped on Facebook and Instagram, and at the very last scene, shows a brief view of the Honda Prelude.
Yes, Honda’s sleek new two-door coupe could be headed to Malaysia real soon. After all, the Prelude was previously shown here, albeit in prototype form, during the 2024 KLIMS.
Codenamed BF1, this sixth-generation Honda Prelude has already gone on sale in Japan, priced from JPY 6,179,000 (~RM 163k) – putting it higher than the FL5 Type R, slotting between the GR Supra 2.0L and 3.0L variants. Keep in mind that this comparison is for the Japanese market.

Is there a VTEC engine for the Honda Prelude?

Don’t hold your breath for a VTEC Prelude – Honda has stated that the Prelude will only be getting its trick two-motor petrol-electric e:HEV hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine produces 141 PS and 182 Nm, while the electric motor outputs 184 PS and 315 Nm — figures identical to the Civic and CR-V e:HEV. Like the Civic and CR-V e:HEV, the 2025 Prelude also offers an e-CVT.

Setting the Prelude apart from its other e:HEV siblings is the Honda S+ Shift drive mode switch, which mimics an eight-speed automatic transmission. Turn on S+ mode, the Prelude even does rev-matched downshifts.
A total of four drive modes are available: Sport, GT, Comfort, and Individual. The latter lets drivers customise parameters such as powertrain, steering, suspension, meter display, engine sound, and adaptive cruise control.
No Type R badge, but secretly one

Honda may not have slapped a Type R badge on the Prelude, but it does feature the Type R’s trick Dual Axis front suspension, active damper system, variable gear-ratio steering, rigid drive shafts, and Brembo brakes.
Excited yet? Stay tuned for more.
