At the sides of today’s 2026 Proton S70 media preview event, we had the opportunity to compare the outgoing 3-cylinder Proton S70 against the newly-launched 2026 Proton S70 with the new 4-pot i-GT turbo engine.
What’s new on the 2026 Proton S70?
First things first – the 2026 Proton S70 is the third Proton model to receive the i-GT turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, after the 2025 Proton X50 and 2026 Proton X70.
The new engine produces 181 PS and 290 Nm, marking a 31 PS and 64 Nm increase in power compared to the GEP3 3-pot multi-point injection engine.
As such, the increase in power has reduced the 2026 Proton S70’s century sprint time, now requiring just 7.5 seconds. The older 3-pot unit requires an additional 1.5 seconds to hit 100 km/h.
Despite the increase in power, Proton has stated that the new i-GT turbo engine is marginally more fuel efficient at 5.7 L/100 km (17.5 km/L).
Apart from the increase in power, there are subtle styling changes as well – the headlights are new. On these new headlights, the turn signals now cut across the inner part of the headlights. As before, variants from the Premium onwards are equipped with LED projector headlights.
Then there’s the new 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels for the Flagship and Flagship X variants. The new wheel design mirrors that of the updated Geely Emgrand, with the lines that extend into the spokes of the rims are now shorter than before.
The Flagship X variant also receives a new body kit design, one that is far more aggressive. The front skirt extends further, while the rear skirt receives a diffuser-like pattern. Even the bootlid spoiler is more prominent than the 2024 model.
Inside, the 2026 Proton S70 receives new silver illuminated power window switches and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – the latter exclusive on the Flagship and Flagship X variants. Also exclusive to the Flagship X variant is the black headliner and pillars.
In terms of pricing, the 2026 Proton S70 is priced the same as before: RM 73,800 for the Executive, RM 79,800 for the Premium, RM 89,800 for the Flagship, and RM 94,800 for the Flagship X
That said, Proton is offering the first 2,000 buyers of the 2026 Proton S70 a RM 5,000 rebate, knocking the price down to RM 68,800 for the Executive, RM 74,800 for the Premium, RM 84,800 for the Flagship, and RM 89,800 for the Flagship X.
