Proton’s Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) is the company’s latest attempt at a modular architecture, with the first model being the Proton Saga MC3.

The Proton Saga MC3 won’t be the only model to be based on the AMA platform. During the Proton Tech Showcase 2025, they mentioned that the AMA platform would spawn at least another 3 more models, codenamed AMA02, AMA05 and AMA06.

Now, according to our friends over at Funtasticko, their sources mentioned that the prototype unit of the AMA02, which could very well be the Proton Saga Cross, has arrived in Malaysia.

Said prototype will be donning the body of the Proton Iriz Active. The source told Funtasticko that the prototype was initially supposed to arrive and start road testing right after Chinese New Year, but got delayed due to logistic issues.

That said, the same source mentioned that the prototype will start road testing after the Hari Raya season or by mid-April.

What is the AMA02 Proton Saga Cross?

The AMA02 Proton Saga Cross, as the name suggests, is a crossover / SUV version of the Saga MC3. It will be challenging the likes of other A-segment SUVs, such as the Perodua Ativa, Honda WR-V, and Chery Tiggo Cross.

Under the hood, the AMA02 Saga Cross will adopt the same 1.5-litre BHE15 four-cylinder petrol engine, mated exclusively to an Aisin-sourced four-speed automatic.

But that’s not all – the AMA02 Saga Cross will also be the first of the AMA models to offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, one upping its competition.

In addition to that, AMA02 Saga Cross is said to offer a far more comprehensive ADAS suite compared to the Saga MC3.
