At long last, Toyota now has its B-segment entry in the form of the new 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross.
Overview
The 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross is a B-segment SUV that is developed on the DNGA-B platform, same as the Toyota Vios and Toyota Veloz. Moreover, the Yaris Cross has a sibling model in Malaysia – the Perodua Traz.
Unlike the Perodua Alza-Toyota Veloz arrangement where Perodua contract manufactures the Veloz for Toyota, the Yaris Cross is locally-assembled (CKD) by Toyota at its Bukit Raja facility.
For the Malaysian market, UMW Toyota Motor is offering two variants of the Yaris Cross:
- 1.5S: RM 99,900
- 1.5S HEV: RM 109,900
Exterior
Think of the Toyota Yaris Cross as a mini-Corolla Cross and you’ll be mostly on-point. Like its larger sibling, the Yaris Cross gets an inverted hexagonal front grille, with a pair of projector LED headlights on each end.
When compared to the Traz, the Yaris Cross’ front fascia is more laidback, as the Traz’s X-shaped front fascia is more aggressive.
Regardless of variant, the 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross gets a set of 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels – one inch up compared to the Traz.

Towards the rear-end, the Yaris Cross gets an XU60 Harrier-esque rear end, with a pair of LED tail lights sloping on each end. Unlike the Traz, the Yaris Cross doesn’t offer a trim piece beneath the Toyota logo.
That said, the Yaris Cross offers a silver diffuser-like trim piece in lieu of the plain black bumper of the Traz.
Colour options include: Attitude Black, Dark Turquoise, Platinum White Pearl, Silver Metallic, and Spicy Scarlet SE.
Interior
Whereas the Traz’s cabin gets a dash of red for that sporty feel, the 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross adopts a shade of blue. There are blue highlights on the door cards, dashboard, and seats, as well as blue illumination for the foot well.
The Yaris Cross’ infotainment display also one ups the Traz with a 10.1-inch touchscreen unit that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, pumping audio through a six-speaker sound system. No Pioneer-branded audio like the Thai-spec car, though.
As evident from the buttons on the right steering wheel spoke, the Yaris Cross also offers adaptive cruise control (ACC) – a feature that’s currently missing on the Perodua Traz.
Boot space is rated at 471 litres for the ICE variant and 465 litres for the HEV variant, which is supplemented by a 200 mm deep underfloor compartment that also houses the 16-inch temporary spare tyre.
Powertrain
Two powertrain options are available on the Malaysian-spec 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross.
The first powertrain is shared with the Traz, in the form of a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder 2NR-VE petrol engine that does 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,200 rpm, paired to a CVT automatic.
Then there’s the petrol-electric hybrid, encompassing a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder 2NR-VEX petrol engine paired to an electric motor for a combined output of 111 PS and 141 Nm. This powertrain is shared with the Vios HEV.

Toyota quotes a fuel consumption of up to 27.8 km/L (3.59 L/100) for the HEV variant of the Yaris Cross.
The Yaris Cross gets a 42-litre fuel tank, while the Yaris Cross HEV’s tank is marginally smaller at 36 litres.
