UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has launched the new 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid in Malaysia, 20 days after bookings were opened earlier this month. A month prior, spyshots of the model emerged, hinting that the model is in fact Malaysia-bound.
Overview
For the Malaysian market, prices for the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid start from RM 103,900 for the HEV variant, while the GR-Sport variant is priced from RM 109,900. Both prices are on-the-road, excluding insurance.
Like the regular petrol variants, the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid is locally assembled (CKD) at UMWT’s Bukit Raja facility.
Malaysia is the fourth country within the ASEAN region to launch the Vios Hybrid, after Thailand, Singapore, and Philippines.

Exterior
Visually, the Vios Hybrid, particularly the HEV variant, can be differentiated by its dark chrome plating used around the side windows, while the gun metallic finish is used for the grille and boot lid garnish. There’s also a HEV emblem and unique 5-lug alloy wheels that further differentiate the HEV variant from its regular petrol siblings.
The GR-Sport variant, meanwhile, gains a unique and sportier body kit, featuring a sculpted front bumper, side skirts, and a rear bumper with diffuser. The sporty look is further emphasised by a boot lid spoiler and variant-exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels.
Colour options for the HEV variant include Attitude Black Mica, Celestite Grey Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Scarlet SE, and Silver Metallic. For the GR-Sport variant, Silver Metallic and Celestite Grey are not available, although the model can be specified with a black roof option when paired with White Pearl or Scarlet SE.

Interior
Mirroring the exterior updates, the interior of the Vios Hybrid also receives several changes. Chief among these is a 7.0-inch digital driver display with HEV-specific graphics, including an EV mode indicator when the system is operating in electric-only mode.
Further differentiating the HEV from regular Vios variants is a larger 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Additionally, the HEV variant gains extra ambient lighting on the instrument panel and door trims, on top of the centre console area.
The Vios GR-Sport adds a black soft-touch dashboard pad with silver stitching, GR-Sport combination leather and suede upholstery, as well as GR-S logos on the steering wheel and carpet mats.
Further separating the GR-Sport from its regular siblings is its retuned suspension. Toyota has revised the coil springs and shock absorbers for a sportier drive, sharper handling, and quicker responses. The electric power steering (EPS) has also been recalibrated to provide improved steering feedback.
Powertrain
At the heart of the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid is a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 91 PS and 121 Nm, paired with an electric motor delivering 80 PS and 141 Nm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via an E-CVT automatic transmission.
This is Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid powertrain, which the company claims is significantly more efficient than before. Under the NEDC test cycle, the Vios Hybrid returns a fuel consumption figure of 3.6 L/100 km (27.8 km/L) — approximately 31% more efficient than the regular petrol-powered Vios.
Thanks to the placement of the hybrid battery beneath the rear seats, boot space is not compromised. As such, both the HEV and GR-Sport variants retain a full-sized spare tyre, while the 12-volt battery has been relocated to the boot.

In terms of aftersales support, the 2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid is backed by:
- 5 years / unlimited mileage vehicle warranty
- 8 years / unlimited mileage hybrid battery pack warranty (includes Inverter and Power Management Control ECU)
Optionally, customers can also extend the battery pack add related hybrid components warranty for an additional 2 years, bringing the total warranty to 10 years.
