GWM Malaysia has launched the 2026 GWM Tank 300 HEV, a hybrid variant of its popular body-on-frame off-road SUV.
Overview
Priced from RM 259,800 on the road without insurance, the 2026 GWM Tank 300 HEV joins the existing Tank 300 ICE in the lineup. The Tank 300 HEV is only RM 9,800 more than the regular Tank 300.
GWM Malaysia is positioning the new Tank 300 HEV as an additional variant alongside the Tank 300, as both serve as distinct choices for different buyers. Since the Tank 300’s launch in 2024, GWM Malaysia has sold over 1,000 units in the country.
The company is also offering a RM 3,000 loyalty rebate for existing GWM owners.
Exterior
First things first — the Tank 300 HEV receives a different set of wheels compared to the regular Tank 300, which is a set of 17-inch alloy wheels finished in black (regular Tank 300 gets a set of 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels).
Further separating the two siblings is the addition of the HEV emblem below the rear grab handle.
Colour options include a new HEV-exclusive colour, Sand Beige, joining Crystal Black and Pearl White.
Interior
Stepping inside, the 2026 GWM Tank 300 HEV gets Nappa leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, 12.3-inch infotainment display, 9-speaker infinity sound system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Speaking of seats, the driver gets an 8-way power-adjustable seat with 4-way lumbar support, together with ventilation, massage, memory, and welcome function. The front passenger seat is 4-way power-adjustable and also ventilated.
There’s also an automatic dual-zone climate control system with rear air vents, ionizer with PM2.5 sensor system, and N95 particulate filter.
Powertrain
This is where the 2026 GWM Tank 300 HEV is separated from its ICE sibling. A turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine is mated to a 9-speed Hybrid Automatic Transmission (9HAT), which offers a combined system output of 346 PS and 648 Nm (Tank 300 offers 220 PS and 380 Nm).
A small ternary lithium battery pack with a capacity of 1.67 kWh is also fitted to the Tank 300 HEV.
Off-road hardware is unchanged from the ICE model. The Tank 300 HEV gets a full-time on-demand 4WD system with 4L low range gearing, seven terrain modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and 4L. There’s also Tank Turn Assist and Crawl Control (CCO).
