Stellantis starts CKD local assembly of Leapmotor C10 at Gurun Plant in Kedah

Stellantis Malaysia has commenced local assembly of Leapmotor vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Gurun, Kedah, starting with the Leapmotor C10. Assembly of the B10 is slated to follow by end of 2026.

Stellantis has invested EUR 2.23 million into the localised assembly development, with a further EUR 3.1 million allocated for production line and infrastructure upgrades at the Gurun facility. While current production is focused on supplying the Malaysian market, Stellantis says it is evaluating potential export opportunities to the wider ASEAN region.

Technical personnel and assembly operators at Gurun have undergone specialised training to handle Leapmotor’s software and vehicle architectures, and are now certified to work with high-voltage EV systems rated up to 800V. The assembly and quality compliance protocols follow a unified global framework jointly established by Leapmotor and Stellantis, and have received endorsements from Stellantis’ multidisciplinary teams and Malaysian and international regulatory authorities.

Isaac Yeo, Managing Director of Stellantis ASEAN, said, “The start of Leapmotor’s local assembly operations at our Gurun plant is a landmark achievement that places Malaysia at the forefront of EV industrialisation in the ASEAN region. As a crucial pillar within Stellantis APAC region for global growth, Malaysia is uniquely positioned to drive our regional expansion and lead by example. By leveraging Stellantis’ strategic partnership with Leapmotor, we are not only accelerating Stellantis’ regional electrification roadmap, but delivering high-tech, accessible mobility solutions for consumers while upskilling our manufacturing capabilities.”
