2025 GWM Tank 500 previewed in Malaysia, estimated price below RM 350k

Looks like we’re inching another step closer to the launch of the 2025 GWM Tank 500 in Malaysia, as Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has previewed the new SUV. Bookings for the model was opened earlier this week with estimated prices to go below RM 350k.

For the Malaysian market, the GWM Tank 500 is expected to be powered by a petrol-electric parallel hybrid system, comprising of a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that does 244 PS and 380 Nm hooked up to an electric motor that does 106 PS and 268 Nm.

According to GWM, the combined system output of the Tank 500 is 346 PS and 648 Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system with selectable modes.

The GWM Tank 500 is by no means a small vehicle – it measures 5,078 mm long, 1,934 mm wide, and has a height of 1,905 mm. The Tank 500’s wheelbase is 2,850 mm. For reference, that would put the Tank 500 comparable to SUVs like the Volvo EX90 (5,037 mm x 1,964 mm x 1,747 mm, wheelbase 2,985 mm) or Toyota Land Cruiser (4,995 mm x 1,990 mm x 1,950 mm, wheelbase 2,850 mm).

Like the Toyota Land Cruiser, the GWM Tank 500 features a body-on-frame construction, enabling some proper off-road capabilities.

Standard equipment for the Malaysian-spec GWM Tank 500 includes automatic LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED front and rear fog lights, large 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped with 265/50R20 tyres, front and rear parking sensors, and power-retractable side steps.

Moving into the cabin and it’s a luxurious affair, with Nappa leather upholstery on the seats, as well as an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, boss switch for the rear passenger seat, wood trimmed interior parts, tri-zone automatic air-conditioning, aluminium pedals, Qi wireless charger and rear air vents.

The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the 14.6-inch infotainment display supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which routes audio through a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.
