Chery is on track to hit the Chery 5 million exports milestone by June 2025 — a first for any Chinese carmaker. The announcement was made by Chairman Yin Tongyue during the 2025 International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo in Hong Kong.
This announcement was made at the 2025 International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong), which also coincides with Chery’s ambition of entering the Hong Kong market some time this year.
“We hope to have more of our manufacturing, research and development, and [more of our] data in Hong Kong to fully utilise the city’s advantages,” he was quoted by South China Morning Post.
Chery 5 million exports milestone sets a new global benchmark
Year-to-date (YTD), Chery Group sold a total of 1,027,517 vehicles, marking a healthy 14% increase compared to the same period last year.
Chery’s new energy vehicles (NEVs), a Chinese term of electrified vehicles, increased by 111.5% year-on-year (YoY) to 287,798 units. In May alone, Chery sold a total of 63,169 NEVs, which includes models under its Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) umbrella.
Chery also exported a total of 443,940 cars, thus cementing its position as China’s number one vehicle exporter.
At the Hong Kong expo, the Wuhu-based company showcased its entire line-up, including Chery, Jaecoo, Jetour, iCaur, Luxeed, Omoda, and Exeed. Curiously, Lepas, which made its debut two months back in Wuhu, was not mentioned.
Speaking of Hong Kong, Chery is also exploring the possibility of setting up a production facility in Hong Kong.
Closer to home, Chery Malaysia has its own local assembly (CKD) facility located in Shah Alam, assembling the Jaecoo J7. The Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro models are assembled by Inokom at the Kulim, Kedah facility.
