Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) continue to dominate Malaysia’s EV sales charts in 2025, with the latest data from JPJ for July showing strong sales performance from these Chinese marques. The Proton eMas 7 once again takes the top spot, far ahead of its rivals, while BYD strengthens its presence with five models in our top-10 list.
No. 1 – 2025 Proton eMas 7: 686 units sold
The 2025 Proton eMas 7 continues to set the benchmark for Chinese EV sales in Malaysia, recording 686 units in July alone. Year-to-date (YTD) sales for the eMas 7 stands at 4,689 units.
Backed by competitive pricing, local brand loyalty, and a growing charging network, the eMas 7 has quickly become the default choice for many first-time EV buyers.
With the smaller and more affordable 2025 Proton eMas 5 on the horizon, sales figures would be interesting once the new model launches.
No. 2 – BYD Atto 3: 355 units
Trailing the Proton eMas 7 is the BYD Atto 3. In July alone, a total of 355 units were sold. YTD figure for the BYD Atto 3 is at 2,056 units.
Positioned in the same segment as the eMas 7, the Atto 3 is perhaps one of the earliest Chinese EV to arrive on our shores.
BYD Malaysia recently introduced the BYD Atto 3 Ultra, an updated version of the popular Atto 3 but with a reduction in price. Now retailing for RM 123,800, the Atto 3 Ultra continues to be a popular choice amongst EV buyers.
No. 3 – 2025 BYD Sealion 7: 278 units
Since its launch in November 2024, the 2025 BYD Sealion 7 is steadily gaining a foothold in the competitive EV segment, with 278 units finding new homes in July alone. Despite losing to the Atto 3 in July, the Sealion 7 has the edge in terms of YTD sales, with a total of 2,238 units sold.
Two variants of the 2025 BYD Sealion 7 are offered in Malaysia, priced between RM 183,800 to RM 199,800. Aimed at EV SUVs like the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G6, the Sealion 7 has been proven to be a popular choice.
That said, with the Xpeng G6 facelift arriving soon, it’ll be interesting to watch how BYD responds.
No. 4 – 2025 BYD M6: 117 units
Arriving to Malaysian shores one month before the BYD Sealion 7, the 2025 BYD M6 is BYD Malaysia’s fourth EV offering in the country, followed by the Sealion 7.
In July, a total of 117 units of the BYD M6 were sold, thus bringing the YTD figure to 1,094 units.
Priced between RM 109,800 to RM 123,800, the BYD M6 is the more affordable EV MPV offering that BYD Malaysia has. The other model is the more upmarket Denza D9.
No. 5 – 2025 Denza D9: 103 units
Speaking of the 2025 Denza D9, this luxurious EV MPV is the fifth on our list, with a total of 103 units sold in July. YTD sales figure of the Denza D9 is 718 units.
Considering that the Denza D9 was launched here back in February 2025, this sales figure is nothing short of impressive.
Two variants of the 2025 Denza D9 are offered in Malaysia:
- Advanced FWD: RM 259,000
- Premium AWD: RM 309,000
No. 6 – 2025 Xpeng X9: 72 units
Another new entrant to the electric MPV scene is the 2025 Xpeng X9, which made its Malaysian debut back in March 2025. Three variants are offered here, priced between RM 270,708 to RM 300,708.
Despite arriving to the market later than its sibling, the 2025 Xpeng G6, the Xpeng X9 is slowly proving to be a popular option amongst buyers, as Xpeng managed to sell 72 units of the X9 EV MPV, bringing the YTD total to 314 units. The G6, on the other hand, only sold 37 units in July.
Could the Xpeng X9 overtake the Denza D9 in terms of sales? Only time will tell.
No. 7 – 2025 Leapmotor C10: 66 units
The recent reduction in price of the 2025 Leapmotor C10 certainly helped it leap back (sorry) into the sales chart with 66 units sold last month. Although the YTD sales of the Leapmotor C10 is rather average at 153 units, we reckon that this figure is set to increase over the next couple of months.
The 2025 Leapmotor C10 received an update back in June 2025, which saw the D-segment EV SUV receiving an improved 11-kW on-board AC charger, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), tyre inflator kit, and a tonneau cover for the rear.
After the reduction in price, the 2025 Leapmotor C10 is priced at RM 125,000.

No. 8 – 2025 BYD Atto 2: 63 units
It may only have been three weeks plus since BYD Malaysia launched the 2025 BYD Atto 2 in Malaysia, but it looks like the new model is off to a great start with 63 units sold in July alone (sales will normalize over the next couple of months).
Slotting between the smaller BYD Dolphin and BYD Atto 3, this newly-launched EV SUV is priced from RM 100,000, making it Malaysia’s most affordable EV at the time of writing.

No. 9 – 2025 Chery Omoda E5: 59 units
The EV SUV sibling to the Chery Omoda 5 is the 2025 Chery Omoda E5. Back in July, a total of 59 units found new homes, bringing the YTD sales figure to 453 units.
This year alone, Chery has been aggressively slashing the price of the Omoda 5, with the model now going for as low as RM 98,818, marking a RM 48,000 discount. The caveat is that this price is only valid for 2024 model year vehicles.
No. 10 – 2025 MG S5 EV: 55 units
Rounding out the list is the MG S5 EV, with 55 units sold in July. YTD sales figure of the 2025 MG S5 EV stands at 81 units, which is a given considering that the model made its Malaysian launch back in May.
Priced from RM 116,548 to RM 136,548, MG Malaysia is currently offering the first 500 buyers a RM 6,000 rebate and free wallbox, bringing the price down to RM 110,548 to RM 130,548.
Unlike most of its segment rivals, the 2025 MG S5 EV offers a rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout – giving this EV SUV its distinctive handling characteristics.

Conclusion
July’s numbers make one thing clear – Chinese EV brands have firmly established themselves as the driving force in Malaysia’s EV market. From value-packed entry models to luxury MPVs, there’s now a Chinese EV for almost every buyer profile and budget.
With upcoming launches like the 2025 Proton eMas 5, updated Xpeng G6 facelift, iCaur 03, and Zeekr 7X, the second half of 2025 is shaping up to be even more competitive.
