Following the success of the Proton eMas 7, Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (Pro-Net) is now set to expand its EV line-up with the upcoming 2025 Proton eMas 5 – which is slated to be Proton’s most affordable electric vehicle yet.
What is the 2025 Proton eMas 5?

As its name suggests, the 2025 Proton eMas 5 is positioned below the larger eMas 7, offering a more accessible entry point into Proton’s eMas EV line-up. Like its bigger sibling, the eMas 5 is also derived from a Geely model — specifically the Geely Xingyuan (Star Wish), which was China’s best-selling car in 1H 2025, with over 198,000 units sold.
What powers the Proton eMas 5?

According to Pro-Net, the 2025 Proton eMas 5, in its Premium trim, will be fitted with a 40.16-kWh CATL-sourced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This battery pack offers a range of up to 325 km under the WLTP test cycle, and can be recharged from 30% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in just 21 minutes. Proton may offer additional variants upon the launch of the model, likely with a smaller battery capacity for a more accessible entry price.

DC fast charging the Proton eMas 5 goes up to 71 kW, while AC charging tops out at 6.6 kW.
Motivation for the 2025 Proton eMas 5 comes from a rear-mounted electric motor that outputs 85 kW (116 PS) and 150 Nm. The 0-50 km/h sprint is completed in just 3.9 seconds.
How big is the 2025 Proton eMas 5?

This new EV measures 4,135 mm long, 1,805 mm wide, and 1,580 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,650 mm long. Pro-Net also mentioned that the eMas 5 has a rear boot capacity of 375 litres, and a 70-litre frunk.

For comparison, the recently-launched 2025 BYD Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall. Wheelbase of the Atto 2 comes in at 2,620 mm.

When will Proton launch the eMas 5?

Given that Proton has just started its MISI 5 Tour that’s slated to bring the eMas 5 across Malaysia from August to October 2025, our logical guess is that the 2025 Proton eMas 5 will only launch after the tour has concluded, possibly some time in October or November 2025.
