Come end-September 2025, the government will be implementing the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy, as it is currently finalizing the eligibility criteria.
According to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, “The government is also working with petrol station operators to ensure the MyKad payment system can be used at pumps once the RON95 subsidy is rolled out at the end of this month,” he told Bernama.
The plan to rationalise the RON95 petrol subsidy was first announced in October 2024 during the tabling of Budget 2024. The move is aimed at curbing subsidy leakages.
“We will announce and implement this at the end of the month with assurance that eligible citizens will receive the subsidy as intended,” he added. He also said that the government will utilise data from the Central Database Hub (PADU) system to determine eligibility, ensuring that only those who truly qualify will be able to enjoy the benefit.
Back in July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysians would be able to enjoy RON95 petrol at a cheaper price of RM1.99 per litre (current price is capped at RM2.05/litre) under the new targeted subsidy scheme.
