Spied: 2025 Proton Saga AMA01 caught testing with LED DRLs?

Proton seems to be ramping up development of the 2025 Proton Saga AMA01, with spyshots of the refreshed sedan surfacing more frequently in recent weeks.

This latest set of images—shared by an anonymous reader who spotted the test mule along the NKVE heading toward Klang—offers fresh clues about the upcoming model.

Are those LED daytime running lights on the 2025 Proton Saga AMA01?

From the front, the photos suggest the Saga AMA01 may adopt LED daytime running lights (DRLs), hinting at a more modern lighting signature (the Perodua Bezza offered LED headlights since 2020). The grille also appears to feature a prominent bow design flanking the Proton emblem, a styling cue familiar to long-time Saga fans since the FL era.

Around the back, the 2025 Proton Saga AMA01 seems to sport a sleek one-piece LED tail-light design inspired by the larger Proton S70. Inside, expect a wide digital display for the instrument cluster and infotainment, a flat-bottom steering wheel, ADAS functions, and a proper gear-lever shift boot, all of which signal a step up in perceived quality.

Interestingly, the rear suspension of the spotted car looks noticeably compressed, possibly indicating load testing. This could tie into rumours that Proton will retire the long-serving CamPro engine in favour of a new naturally aspirated 1.5-litre powerplant, echoing the Saga’s original displacement back in the 1980s.

New 2025 Proton Saga MC3 possible specs

If the speculation proves true, the engine could be the naturally aspirated variant of the BHE15 used in the 2025 Proton X50. Internally codenamed BHE15-PFI, this unit delivers around 110 PS and 135 Nm, giving the Saga a fresher, more efficient drivetrain while keeping running costs low.

Proton has yet to confirm technical details, but with testing intensifying, an official reveal of the 2025 Proton Saga AMA01 may not be far off.
