Thailand is the first market in the ASEAN region to launch the 2026 Volvo ES90. Sourced from Volvo’s plant in Chengdu, China, the sole Ultra variant in Thailand is priced at THB 2.99 million (about RM 385k).
When the Volvo ES90 arrives in Malaysia, expect the model to be locally-assembled (CKD) at Volvo’s Shah Alam plant, in-line with other Volvo models on sale here.

Overview

The 2026 Volvo ES90 may seem like the spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Volvo S90, but it’s not so straightforward. Volvo says that the ES90 “seamlessly blends the refined elegance of a sedan, the adaptability of a fastback, and the spacious interior and higher ground clearance associated with SUVs.”

Moreover, its 178 mm ground clearance is (indirectly) a nod to the Volvo S60 Cross Country. The 178 mm ground clearance is a whole 30 mm more than the older S90.
The Volvo ES90 is the third Volvo model to be developed on the SPA2 platform, after the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3.
Exterior

The exterior of the 2026 Volvo ES90 is unmistakably Volvo, with its Thor-hammer LED headlights flanking the Volvo logo up front, while the rear gets a pair of C-shaped LED tail lights.

Unlike regular sedans with a boot, the ES90 features a rear-opening hatch, which Volvo says makes it easy to load and unload item from the boot. Speaking of boot, the ES90 offers a 446-litre boot, which can be expanded to 904 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Additionally, there’s a 27-litre frunk – ideal for storing the car’s charging cables.

The Thai-spec Volvo ES90 gets 22-inch wheels, measuring 255/40R22 up front and 285/35R22 at the rear.
Interior

Being Volvo’s flagship sedan, there’s no compromise inside too. Nappa leather upholstery (available either in Charcoal or Dawn colours) can be found on the front and rear seats, as well as rear reclining seats.

Infotainment is accessible via the portrait 14.5-inch display running on the latest Volvo Car UX, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio is backed by a 25-speaker, 1,610-watt Bowers and Wilkins sound system, replete with Dolby Atmos.

Powertrain
Powering the Ultra variant in Thailand is a CATL-sourced 92-kWh (88-kWh usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, allowing for a range of up to 650 km under the WLTP test cycle (or 755 km NEDC).
Here, the rear-mounted electric motor does 245 kW (333 PS) and 480 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 6.6 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

The 2026 Volvo ES90 is the first model by the Swedish marque to offer an 800-volt electrical system. This allows DC fast charging to peak at 350 kW, charging the battery from 10% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in just 22 minutes.
AC charging is capped at 11 kW – slower than rivals Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5, both of which can do up to 22 kW AC charging.
Customers in Thailand can expect to collect the keys to their new ES90 starting the end of this year or early January 2026.
