Goodbye CamPro; there’s now a new engine

First things first – the brand-new powertrain. After close to 20 years of being in service, Proton has retired the CamPro engine In favour of this new i-GT engine.

Now coming in at 1.5-litres (still naturally-aspirated), the new engine is far more fuel efficient than before, sipping just 4.9L/100 km under the Malaysia Driving Cycle (MDC). The Saga, for the first time in its 40-year history, also gains electric power steering (EPS).

Paired to the engine is a CVT, possibly still sourced from Punch Powertrain.

The 2026 Proton Saga is safer than ever before

Proton has highlighted that the all-new Saga gets a total of 9 ADAS features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), and Front Departure Alert (FDA).

But that’s not all – there’s also a total of six airbags and the Proton Reinforced Safety Structure (RESS) with Hot Press Forming (HPF) structure that ensures structure rigidity.

Other bits that Proton has confirmed on the all-new 2026 Saga include a new 16-inch integrated dual screen system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic headlights with Follow-Me-Home lighting, and headlight leveling.

Speaking of lights, the all-new 2026 Proton Saga gets full LED projector headlights with daytime running lights, full-width LED tail lights, and new front grille with ‘Sulaman Songket’ motif.

“The All-New Saga represents much more than the next chapter in our sedan legacy,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar. “It embodies the culmination of years of development by Malaysian engineers and designers, backed by global collaboration.
