This sleek new sedan is the smart #6 – the company’s first-ever sedan. Ahead of the model’s official debut, the Geely and Mercedes-Benz co-owned marque released preliminary specifications and photos of the new sedan.
First things first – the smart #6 is the first smart model to debut with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. At the heart is a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine (likely BHE15) hooked up to a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (3DHT) for a combined output of 435 PS. The China-spec smart #5 has the honours of the first model to receive this powertrain, but the #6 skips the BEV variant altogether.

At the same time, this PHEV powertrain allows the smart #6 to consume just 3.9L/100 km under the CLTC test cycle. The combined range is up to 1,810 km, while the pure electric range is up to 285 km, also under the CLTC cycle.

In terms of design, the smart #6 gets a sleek front fascia – the rectangular headlights are connected with a gloss black trim piece, with a large gaping lower air intake that gets a trim piece around.

Towards the rear is a spoiler that is able to deploy and retract, likely deploying at higher speeds like other high-performance sedans. Like the front, the rear of the smart #6 gets a plastic trim piece that gives the smart #6 a clean look.

The company has also mentioned that the smart #6 measures 4,906 mm long, 1,922 mm wide, 1,508 mm tall, with a 2,926 mm long wheelbase. That would put the smart #6 marginally larger than the BYD Seal (4,800 mm x 1,875 mm x 1,460 mm, wheelbase 2,920 mm).
A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and various cameras mounted around the car hint at the smart #6’s ADAS capabilities, though smart has yet to officially announce the full specifications.
