Proton is definitely ramping up road-testing of the Proton X90 MC, as spyshots of the upcoming D-segment SUV have emerged on Christmas Day, 25-December.
This particular Proton X90 MC mule was wearing the same B2646A trade plate, suggesting that it is the same unit that was spotted last week.
Despite the thick camouflage, the X90 MC appears to look similar to the outgoing X90, down to similar LED headlights and LED tail lights. That said, do bear in mind that this is still a test mule, and isn’t representative of the actual X90 MC when it launches.
Like the 2025 Proton X50, the upcoming Proton X90 MC will likely adopt the new Aurobay-sourced BHE15-EFZ turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, dropping the long-serving 1.5-litre mild-hybrid (MHEV) system in the process.
The outgoing Proton X90 offers a combined system output of 190 PS and 300 Nm – 177 PS and 255 Nm from its three-cylinder engine, which is then supplemented by the MHEV system that contributed another 13 PS and 45 Nm.
With the BHE15-EFZ in place, output figures are expected to take a slight hit, coming in at 181 PS and 290 Nm. While Aurobay does electrified versions of their powertrains (ie BHE15-BFZ), it is unlikely to be featured on the X90 MC.

The 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch (DCT) should remain unchanged, though there is a possibility of the X90 MC getting a recalibrated transmission tuning, similar to the X50 MC.
In-line with recent Proton models, the X90 should be receiving support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, possibly via an updated infotainment system.
