BMW Group Malaysia has officially launched the 2026 BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro, marking a major milestone as the first locally assembled (CKD) fully electric (EV) BMW in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region. The executive electric sedan is joined by the debut of the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport.

Overview

The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro represents a significant step forward for BMW’s electrification strategy in Malaysia, becoming the brand’s first locally assembled (CKD) battery electric vehicle. Positioned as an executive electric sedan, the i5 combines long-distance capability, high-performance electric drive, and BMW’s latest digital and driver-assistance technologies.

Priced from RM 368,800 (without BSRI), the CKD i5 marks a RM 32,000 reduction in price compared to the CBU variant.

With a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 627 km, the BMW i5 eDrive40 is designed to cater to both business and personal use, while reinforcing BMW Group Malaysia’s commitment to local EV manufacturing and ecosystem development.

Exterior

The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro features a modern reinterpretation of BMW’s executive sedan design language, blending elegant proportions with sporty detailing. Dominating the front is the BMW Shadowline Iconic Glow kidney grille, paired with Adaptive LED headlights featuring vertical daytime running light elements.

The elongated profile flows into a sculpted rear section with slim LED taillights finished in Shadowline trim. As part of the M Sport Pro package, the i5 rides on 20-inch M Aerodynamic Wheels (Style 939M) and is further enhanced with an M rear spoiler, M high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, and M Sport brakes in dark blue metallic.

Interior

Inside, the CKD i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro is centred around BMW’s latest Curved Display, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The cockpit is further elevated by the BMW Interaction Bar, which integrates touch-sensitive controls and dynamic ambient lighting across the dashboard and doors.

M-specific elements include an M Leather steering wheel, M seat belts, and anthracite M headliner, while BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery with Dark Silver M accents and carbon fibre trim reinforces the premium positioning.

Comfort and convenience features include fully electric sport seats with memory and lumbar support, four-zone automatic climate control, comfort access, roller sunblinds, wireless charging, and a panoramic glass roof with retractable shade. Rear-seat space is generous, offering ample legroom and headroom for executive-class comfort.

Audio duties are handled by a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 17 speakers and a 655-watt amplifier, complemented by BMW IconicSounds Electric.

Boot capacity stands at 490 litres, expandable via a 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat back, with power-operated tailgate functionality as standard.

Powertrain

Powering the CKD BMW i5 eDrive40 is BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology, featuring a rear-mounted electric motor producing 250 kW (340 hp) and 430 Nm of torque. This enables a 0–100 km/h sprint in 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 193 km/h.

A major technical highlight is the use of silicon carbide (SiC) converters, alongside advanced battery and thermal management systems, including adaptive recuperation and an intelligent heat pump. Together, these enhancements allow the i5 to achieve a WLTP-rated range of 513 to 627 km on a full charge.

Charging capabilities include 22 kW AC charging (0–100% in approximately 4 hours 15 minutes) and DC fast charging up to 205 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 34 minutes.
