After 8 long years, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) will finally retire the C27-generation Nissan Serena, replacing it with the brand-new C28-generation model.
ETCM has confirmed that the 2026 C28 Nissan Serena will be launching in March, offered exclusively with the e-Power series-hybrid powertrain. This new C-segment MPV is estimated to be priced between RM 160,000 to RM 180,000.

Out goes the tried-and-tested 2.0-litre S-Hybrid mild-hybrid (MHEV), now replaced with a brand-new e-Power series-hybrid system that features a naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre HR14DDe three-cylinder petrol engine that does 98 PS and 123 Nm.

This engine functions purely as an on-board generator for the 1.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s located underneath the two front seats.
The battery pack powers an electric motor that does 163 PS and 315 Nm, driving both front wheels. Under the NEDC test cycle, ETCM says that the C28 Serena e-Power returns 18.5 km/L. When combined with its 52-litre fuel tank, the new MPV is able to return up to 1,000 km of driving range.
Don’t hold your breath for the return of the 2.0-litre S-Hybrid. Christopher Tan, ETCM’s Executive Vice President mentioned that the company will be eventually transitioning towards e-Power as Nissan’s signature powertrain offering.

As for the C28 Serena e-Power, ETCM has mentioned that the model has been thoroughly re-engineered to reduce motion sickness for occupants, including sway-reducer air curtains, newly-developed SUV-based front suspension (shared with the not-sold-in-Malaysia, fourth-gen T33 X-Trail), revised electric power steering, retuned brake booster, newly-designed Zero Gravity seats, quieter cabin, and a more calming, stress-free cabin environment.

There’s also more technology within the cabin – the dual 12.3-inch displays take centrestage, one as a digital driver display, while the other serves as an infotainment display. The latter is replete with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Beneath the dual-display set-up is the climate control, which offers physical controls for temperature. The conventional shift lever found on the previous C27-generation Serena has been swapped out with a more modern-looking button shifter.

It’s also proper practical – the C28 Nissan Serena offers 13 versatile seating modes, with cabin walk-through access, two-way sliding captain chairs, dual-back door function, and hands-free sliding doors.
Safety equipment includes the Nissan ProPilot ADAS suite, six airbags, 360-degree Around View Monitor, Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Lane Intervention, and Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention.
