Toyota Land Cruiser FJ spotted in Thailand, could get diesel?

Since making its global debut in October 2025, not much details have surfaced surrounding the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.

That said, we are definitely inching closer to the model’s regional debut as this new SUV was recently spotted, with full camouflage, on the streets of Bangkok.

Courtesy of Motor Thailand’s Facebook page, this lone spyshot depicts a fully-camouflaged Land Cruiser FJ with a TC 3344 test car plate. The test car’s tail lights that sit at the midway point of the rear is the biggest clue that we are in fact looking at Toyota’s revived FJ.

What is the Land Cruiser FJ?

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ may have a name similar to the now-discontinued FJ Cruiser, but that’s where most of the similarities end.

Making its global debut back in October 2025, the Land Cruiser FJ is a smaller and distant cousin to the iconic FJ Cruiser, developed on Toyota’s IMV platform (which also underpins the Hilux, Fortuner, and Hilux Champ).

Speaking of Hilux Champ, the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ shares a couple of bits with the versatile Hilux Champ, including certain body panels, and even dashboard layout.

Ditto that for the Land Cruiser FJ’s powertrain options – Toyota has mentioned that the Japan-market Land Cruiser FJ, codenamed TRJ240, will be fitted with a naturally-aspirated 2.7-litre 2TR-FE four-cylinder petrol engine.

That said, rumours from Thailand suggest that the Land Cruiser FJ could also be fitted with a turbodiesel powertrain – in-line with expectations with such an SUV.

Any luck for Malaysia?

Given that the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand for most global markets, there is a chance of the model arriving here via official channels.
