Say hello to the all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ , the second-generation of Toyota’s iconic off-road SUV – akin to your favourite series returning after a hiatus. The previous-generation model was on sale since 2006 and was discontinued in 2022.
The all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is set to reach global markets starting mid-2026.
Overview

The all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is developed on the IMV platform – the very same ladder-frame platform that underpins the Toyota Hilux, Toyota Fortuner, and Toyota Hilux Champ. The latter is the model that’s the closest sibling to the FJ Cruiser, which we will get into.
According to Toyota, the 2026 Land Cruiser FJ measures 4,575 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,960 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,580 mm long – identical to the Super SWB (short wheelbase) variant of the Hilux Champ.

For comparison’s sake, this puts the new-gen Land Cruiser FJ smaller than not only the first-gen model (4,670 mm x 1,895 mm x 1,830 mm), but also the Fortuner (4,795 mm x 1,855 mm x 1,835 mm).
Considering the IMV underpinnings, it’s likely that the 2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser will be manufactured in Thailand (mother plant for IMV models) instead of Japan. This is the arrangement for the Toyota Hilux that’s currently on sale in Japan – the model is manufactured in Thailand and exported to Japan.
Exterior

With its pair of LED headlights flanking a rectangular grille with the Toyota script, with a rugged front bumper beneath that, the all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ pays homage to past Land Cruiser models.

The rear of the 2026 Land Cruiser FJ is a tailgate-mounted space wheel – something that is becoming less and less common, particularly on off-road SUVs. The presence of this tailgate-mounted spare wheel suggests that the Land Cruiser FJ will get a sideway-opening tailgate, which may not bode well for reversing into tight parking spots.

Toyota has also emphasised that “both front and rear corner bumpers are removable, segmented types, allowing only damaged parts to be replaced to improve repairability, while also taking customizability into account to allow users to enjoy their Land Cruiser in their own unique ways”.

Look closer and one would notice that the Land Cruiser FJ bears more than just a passing resemblance to the Hilux Champ – even the hard points are similar to the Hilux Champ.
Interior

The ruggedness of the Land Cruiser FJ continues inside – much of the 2026 FJ Cruiser’s interior is designed with a blocky theme to emphasize on the model’s rugged intentions.

Features of the all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ include physical buttons on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, fully-digital instrument cluster, physical controls for audio control and climate control, and a wide infotainment display replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

While this dashboard design may fresh to some, it is in fact largely carried over from the Hilux Champ, albeit tweaked for a less utilitarian purpose.
Powertrain

Powering the all-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is a naturally-aspirated 2.7-litre 2TR-FE four-cylinder petrol engine that does 163 PS and 246 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2026 Land Cruiser FJ gets a part-time four-wheel drive system.
Will it come Malaysia?

At the time of writing, Toyota has yet to reveal markets where the Land Cruiser FJ will go on sale. However, considering that the Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand for most (if not all) markets, there may be a chance for this iconic SUV to be offered here.
After all, with retro-futuristic SUVs being the rage right now, it may not be hard for the 2026 Land Cruiser FJ to find its following.
