Headlining this update is the new and improved 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, which we will get into further down below.

Exterior

Changes to the exterior are relatively minor – there’s new radiator grille design, new LED headlight colour and new front fog light bezel design, as well as revised 18-inch machined alloy wheels for the Premium variant.

Towards the rear, both the Premium and X-Terrain variants receive revised LED tail lights.

Wrapping up the exterior update is a new set of side steps, with black and silver finishing.

All variants also feature tailgate assist, which features a gas strut that eases opening and closing of the tailgate.

Colour options include:

  • Inishmore Green (Premium only)
  • Obsidian Gray (Auto Plus, Premium Only)
  • Namibu Orange (Premium, Standard AT, Auto Plus)
  • Onyx Black (all variants)
  • Dolomite White Pearl (all variants)
  • Mercury Silver (all variants)

Interior

Ditto that to the cabin, as the D-Max 2.2TD receive new seat design for all variants, regardless of finishing trim (leather/fabric).

Upper variants receive a new 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, while lower variants receive a new 7.0-inch infotainment display. The X-Terrain and Premium variants also receive redesigned door insert pattern.

Powertrain

This new 2.2-litre engine supersedes the long-serving 1.9-litre RZ4E-TC, the latter debuted here back in 2019. The updated engine is codenamed RZ4F-TC and outputs 163 PS and 400 Nm, marking a 13 PS and 50 Nm increase over the predecessor oil burner.

Changes to the RZ4F-TC includes redesigned cylinders with a high-flow lubrication system and a high-swirl combustion chamber that is said to improve combustion efficiency. There’s also ultra-low-friction pistons, higher pressure 250 MPa direct injectors (up from 180 MPa), multi-core ECU, and an electronic variable geometry turbocharger.

As a result, Isuzu claims that the new engine is 10.7% more fuel efficient than the older 1.9-litre unit in extra-urban driving conditions. The new engine is also Euro 5-compliant.

There’s also a new automatic transmission. Out goes the six-speed unit, as it has been replaced by a brand-new Aisin-sourced 8-speed unit.

The 3.0-litre unit will soldier on, still mated to the 6-speed automatic transmission.
