2026 Toyota bZ4X launched in Malaysia: RM 220k, 525 km WLTP

The 2026 Toyota bZ4X is finally in Malaysia. This marks the third mode launched by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) earlier today, with the other two being the 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV and the 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV.

Overview

The 2026 Toyota bZ4X is the flagship model of Toyota’s bZ battery electric vehicle series and the first Toyota model officially sold in Malaysia built on the e-TNGA BEV-dedicated platform.

The bZ4X sits at the top of UMWT’s electrified vehicle lineup, above the hybrid models currently on sale in Malaysia. It is part of Toyota’s Multi-Pathway approach to carbon neutrality, with “bZ” standing for “Beyond Zero.”

Priced at RM 220,000 (on-the-road, without insurance), the bZ4X is available in a single variant in Malaysia.

Exterior

The bZ4X follows a “Hi-Tech and Emotion” design theme built around Toyota’s “Hammerhead” front-end treatment, characterised by a three-dimensional face that places visual emphasis on the corners. Dynamic character lines flow from front to rear, with the axis lowered toward the tyres to create a flowing silhouette.

Aerodynamic efficiency is a key consideration throughout. A fully covered underbody smoothens airflow beneath the car, while a flat-centre roof spoiler and rear ducktail spoiler manage airflow at the back. The combined result is a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd. High-tech LED headlights with segmented main beams, daytime running lights, and clearance lamps reinforce the Hammerhead identity.

Standard fitment includes 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with 235/50 R20 low rolling resistance tyres.

Interior

The bZ4X’s cabin follows a simple, warm design theme with a low-positioned dashboard for an unobstructed field of vision. A 14-inch high-resolution centre display handles infotainment, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard alongside an enhanced voice recognition function. A separate 7-inch Multi-Information Display is positioned low within the cockpit. The dial-type shift controller is housed in an independent “digital island” centre console, freeing up knee space for both front occupants.

Paddle shifters on the steering column are used to adjust regenerative braking levels rather than select gears — three levels are available.

Front seats are power-adjustable eight ways, with two-way lumbar support for the driver. Both front seats feature ventilation. Ambient lighting is available in 64 colours, selectable via the centre display. A fixed panoramic glass roof with soundproofing glass lets in natural light while keeping cabin noise levels low. The air conditioning system incorporates a nanoe X ion generator for active air purification.

Powertrain

The bZ4X is front-wheel drive, powered by a single electric motor producing 167 kW and 269 Nm. The 73.1-kWh lithium-ion battery provides a claimed range of up to 525 km on the WLTP test cycle. DC fast charging at up to 150 kW brings the battery to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, adding roughly 10 km of range per minute. AC charging is supported at up to 22-kW via the on-board charger.

Toyota targets 90% battery capacity retention after 10 years or 250,000km of use. The battery is water-cooled with individual cell-level monitoring of voltage, current, and temperature. Two drive modes are available — Normal and Eco.
