New 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV launched in Malaysia: 9th gen debuts as EV, RM 226,300

UMW Toyota Motor has just launched the new 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV in Malaysia, marking the arrival of the ninth-gen Hilux in the country.

Alongside the Hilux BEV, UMWT also launched the 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV and 2026 Toyota bZ4X.

Overview

The 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV is the first time the Hilux nameplate gets a full-electric powertrain. Priced at RM 226,300 (on-the-road, without insurance), the Toyota Hilux BEV is imported (CBU) from Thailand.

It also marks the first time a Hilux is imported (CBU) from Thailand in the past 30 years.

Exterior

It’s easy to differentiate the Hilux BEV from the upcoming regular diesel-powered Hilux variants, as the Hilux BEV gets a closed-off front grille that improves aerodynamic efficiency. The Hilux BEV also gets a unique set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Up front is a pair of LED projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, the latter with secondary lighting that runs off the main DRLs.

In terms of dimensions, the Toyota Hilux BEV measures 5,320 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,865 mm tall, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase.

Colour options include Ash, Platinum White Pearl (Premium), and Super White 2 (Fleet/Basic).

Interior

Stepping into the cabin, the Hilux BEV features a design that’s largely identical to the soon-to-be launched ninth-gen Hilux.

There’s a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, 12.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, dual USB-C ports, 12.3-inch digital driver display, and an electric parking brake – the latter is a first for the Hilux.

Powertrain

Mirroring its Thai-spec cousin, our Malaysian-spec Toyota Hilux BEV gets a dual-motor configuration – the front motor does 206 Nm while the rear motor does 267 Nm, allowing for a combined system output of 144 kW (196 PS).

Power for the Hilux BEV comes from a 59.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, allowing for a maximum range of 315 km under the NEDC test cycle. DC fast charging goes up to 125 kW, while AC charging maxes out at 10 kW.

Charging from 10% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) at a DC charging station at 150 kW takes around 30 minutes, while with AC charging, the time from 10% to 100% is 6.5 hours (at 10 kW).

Under the NEDC test cycle, the Hilux BEV returns 315 km.
