GWM sweeps all T2 categories at 2026 Taklimakan Rally

GWM has claimed a clean sweep of all T2 production vehicle categories at the 2026 Taklimakan Rally, taking the T2.E New-Energy Manufacturers’ Cup, T2.1 ICE Manufacturers’ Cup, and T2.3 Production Club Cup. The factory lineup completed all 17 days and 7,500 km of the event without a single mechanical retirement.

The 2026 edition covered 13 special stages across 3,400 km of competitive racing, including deserts, river crossings, rocky terrain, and extreme temperatures. SS3 stretched 468 km, while SS5 and SS6, known as the “Devil Double,” historically record some of the lowest finishing rates in the event.

GWM’s factory entries, running the Tank 700 Hi4-T, secured 11 stage victories. GWM club teams added a further 11 stage wins. The competing vehicles were built to FIA T2 production category regulations, retaining their original chassis structure, body architecture, and core production drivetrain systems.

Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, said, “The achievement at the recent Taklimakan Rally reflects the engineering standards, off-road expertise and vehicle development philosophy that define the broader Tank family.”

Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, added, “Malaysian customers experience the benefits of that capability through vehicles such as the GWM Tank 300 HEV and GWM Tank 500 HEV, which have been developed with the same commitment to durability, capability and driver confidence. Whether navigating city traffic, embarking on a family road trip or exploring off-road destinations, the objective remains the same, to deliver confidence in every journey.”

The Tank 300 HEV and Tank 500 HEV are currently available in Malaysia. The rally-winning Tank 700 Hi4-T is not sold locally at the time of writing.
