
MG Malaysia is gearing up to launch a new model soon, as the company has officially opened registration of interest (ROI) for the MG S5 EV SUV.
What is the 2025 MG S5 EV?
If you have been following the Chinese EV scene closely, you would notice the familiarity of the MG S5 EV, as it is sold as the MG ES5 in China. Think of it as the SUV sibling to the MG4.

Powertrain Options – What to Expect for Malaysia?
MG Malaysia’s ROI page has yet to confirm the powertrain options for our market. However, based on MG Thailand’s specifications, the MG S5 EV is available across two powertrain options:
Standard Range
- 125 kW (170 PS), 250 Nm rear-mounted electric motor
- 50-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery
- 416 km range (NEDC cycle)
Long Range
- 180 kW (245 PS), 350 Nm rear-mounted electric motor
- 64-kWh lithium-ion NMC battery
- 550 km range (NEDC cycle)

Charging Capabilities
Both variants of this SUV in Thailand support:
- Up to 11 kW AC charging
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) up to 6 kW
DC fast charging speeds differ between the two variants:
- Standard Range: Up to 88 kW DC fast charging
- Long Range: Up to 140 kW DC fast charging

The interior of the MG S5 EV is par for the course in this segment – there’s a large touchscreen infotainment system, 12.8-inch in this case, as well as a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Said infotainment system offers support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also automatic air-conditioning with a PM2.5 filter, rear air vents for passengers, wireless charging, 6-speaker sound system, and USB-A and USB-C charging ports.

In Thailand, the MG S5 EV is priced from THB 719,900 (Estimated RM 93.6k) for the entry-level Standard Range D variant, to THB 779,900 (Estimated RM 101.4k) for the mid-spec Standard Range X variant. The top-spec Long Range V variant retails for THB 899,900 (Estimated RM117k).
