Roughly two weeks after registration of interests (ROI) were opened in early April, MG Malaysia has previewed the upcoming all-new 2025 MG S5 EV, with an estimated price that starts from RM 115,000.
“The MG S5 EV is the very first model we are introducing as part of a fresh new chapter for MG in Malaysia. It sets the standard for what drivers can expect from our brand, with best-in-class driving dynamics for this segment. Following its global debut in China last October, the MG S5 EV is purpose-built for Malaysian roads and marks a significant step forward in our electric journey,” said Emory Qifeng, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia.
For the Malaysian market, the MG S5 EV will be available with two battery options – a 49 kWh unit that offers up to 340 km (WLTP) range, or a 62.2 kWh pack offering up to 430 km range (WLTP) and 150 kW DC fast charging. Regardless of which battery option is selected, the MG S5 EV features a rear-mounted electric motor that does 125 kW (170 PS) and 250 Nm.
Like the MG Cyberster and MG4, the MG S5 EV is developed on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP, also called Nebula in some markets). The MG S5 EV has a length of 4,476 mm, width of 1,849 mm and a height of 1,621 mm. The MG S5 EV’s wheelbase is 2,730 mm long.
This puts the MG S5 within the same dimensions as the BYD Atto 3 (4,455 mm x 1,875 mm x 1,615 mm, wheelbase 2,720 mm) and the Proton eMas7 (4,615 mm x 1,901 mm x 1,670 mm, wheelbase 2,750 mm).
In addition to its outstanding handling, both variants of the MG S5 EV are equipped with 6.6 kW AC charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.8-inch Central Control Screen with Voice Control, a 10.25’-inch Instrument Cluster, and a comprehensive safety suite including 7 airbags and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
For those seeking a more premium touch, the MG S5 EV with the 62kWh battery is also available with enhanced comfort and convenience features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, leather and fabric combination seats with MG perforated pattern, a heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 6 premium audio speakers, rear reading lamps, rain-sensing wipers and a 360-degree surround view camera.
The MG S5 EV is available in five colour options, including Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte with a dark interior leather and fabric combination seat.
