Another month, another round of sales data. According to data published by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) on data.gov.my, the Toyota Vios managed to outsell its archrival, the Honda City, in May 2025.
Toyota Vios edges out Honda City in May 2025 Malaysia B-segment sales
With 2,688 units registered in May 2025, the Toyota Vios enjoys a roughly-500-unit lead over the Honda City, which sold 2,134 units in the same month.

However, in terms of year-to-date (YTD) sales, it’s the Honda City that currently enjoy the sales lead, with 11,232 units sold from January to May 2025. The Toyota Vios isn’t too far behind, with 11,115 units registered.
That being said, the figure for the Honda City includes both the sedan and hatchback variants, while Toyota separates the Vios and Yaris sales figures. Overall, it’s very likely that the Vios still outsells the City sedan in terms of sales.

Speaking of the Yaris, UMW Toyota Motor still managed to shift, on average, 500 units a month of this B-segment hatchback. In May 2025, a total of 670 units of the Yaris were registered.

YTD sales for the Yaris stands at 2,939 units. Not bad indeed for a model that is a tad bit long in the tooth.
What about other B-segment models?
Elsewhere, May 2025 Malaysia B-segment sales saw 76 units of the Nissan Almera registered, quite a drop from its peak of 126 units back in March 2025. The Almera’s YTD figure stands at 458 units.
