China has successfully wrestled the world’s fastest EV title from Japanese and Europeans with the 2025 BYD Yangwang U9.
The 2025 BYD Yangwang U9, in its Track Edition guise, clocked a top speed of 472.41 km/h, beating other EV hypercars like the Aspark Owl SP600 (438.73 km/h) and Rimac Nevera R (431.45 km/h).
According to BYD, the record run was done by Marc Basseng, a German race car driver. “Last year, I thought I’d peaked. I never expected to break my own record so soon – but here we are, at the same track, with new technologies that have made it possible.”
While the 2025 Yangwang U9 Track Edition features the same e4 Platform and DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control suspension system, it has its power output cranked to a whole new level.
How much power does the 2025 Yangwang U9 have?
Thanks to its quad-motor configuration, the Yangwang U9 Track Edition outputs, wait for it, a grand total of 3,018 PS – allowing for a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS-per-tonne. Also new to the U9 is its 1,200-volt electrical architecture, a bump up from the regular U9’s 800-volt system.
Its DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control suspension also means that the U9 Track Edition can also jump like the regular U9.

Thus far, there’s no word on the U9 Track Edition’s price, but in China, the regular Yangwang U9 retails for CNY 1.68 million (~RM 990k).
