At the ongoing BYD Tech Discovery 2025 event, BYD Malaysia has previewed the BYD Shark 6, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck that may be introduced here in the near future.
The BYD Shark 6, alongside BYD Malaysia’s current line-up, can be experienced from 14- to 16-November 2025 at Carpark 3, Plaza Arkadia, Desa ParkCity. Additionally, the sleek Denza Z9 GT will also be at the event.
What is the BYD Shark 6?

The BYD Shark 6 is the first pick-up truck by BYD, built on the same platform as the Fangchengbao Bao 5 (Denza B5), featuring double wishbone suspension at the front and rear.
At the heart of the BYD Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system comprising a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 184 PS and 260 Nm, mated to two electric motors for a combined system output of 436 PS and 650 Nm.

That power is enough to propel the 2,710 kg Shark 6 from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 160 km/h. Power for the electric motors comes from a 29.58-kWh BYD LFP Blade battery, which allows for a pure electric range of 100 km. The total range, according to BYD, is 840 km on a single tank of fuel.
To recharge, the BYD Shark 6 accepts up to 55 kW of DC charging, with the 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) taking just 25 minutes. AC charging tops out at 7 kW.

The units on display are Australian-spec cars, as evident from the Australia-specific emission sticker on the windshield. For Australia, BYD is offering a single variant of the Shark 6, which gets automatic LED headlights, front and rear fog lights, LED tail lights, heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustment, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, USB-A and USB-C ports, seven airbags (including a driver far-side airbag), and a full ADAS suite.

When will the BYD Shark 6 launch in Malaysia?
At the time of writing, there has been no indication if or when BYD plans to introduce the model here.
Of course, given that pick-up trucks are tax-free in Malaysia, BYD could import the Shark 6 as a fully imported (CBU) model. BYD Malaysia’s CKD plant, located in Tanjong Malim, will only go online in the second half of 2026 — still quite a while to go.
