Toyota has just debuted the brand-new Toyota Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia, marking the third DNGA model to be electrified. The new electrified Veloz Hybrid will challenge the Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid, currently offered in Thailand.
Overview
The Toyota Veloz is the third model after the Yaris Cross and Vios to receive the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
As such, it gets the same naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 2NR-VEX four-cylinder petrol engine, hooked up to an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack.
The engine, which uses the more efficient Atkinson cycle, outputs 91 PS and 121 Nm. Combined system output of the Veloz Hybrid is 111 PS, sent to the front wheels via an E-CVT automatic transmission – identical to the Vios Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid.
Underpinning the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is the same DNGA-B architecture as the regular petrol variant.
For the Indonesian market, prices of the Veloz Hybrid are as follows:
- V Hybrid: IDR 299 million (~RM 75k)
- Q Hybrid: IDR 335 million (~RM 83k)
- Q Hybrid Modellista: IDR 350 million (~RM 87k)
- Q Hybrid TSS Modellista: IDR 390 million (~RM 97k)
These prices are valid for the pre-book period, until 31-December 2025.
What’s new on the Toyota Veloz Hybrid?
Visually, the Toyota Veloz Hybrid is identical to the regular petrol-powered variants, save for a couple Hybrid emblems scattered around the exterior.
The rest of the Veloz Hybrid, at least for the Indonesian market, should be identical to the regular Veloz.
What about Malaysia?

There is a possibility of the model coming here, given that the Toyota Vios Hybrid has already been spotted in Malaysia.
After all, hybrids remain UMW Toyota Motor’s (UMWT) choice at the moment, as the company stated that “the HEV is the most accessible and realistic choice for Malaysian customers in terms of practicality and infrastructure”.
At the time of writing, UMWT has two hybrid models on sale in Malaysia – the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Toyota Innova Hybrid.
Furthermore, Toyota Indonesia’s teaser hinted at a regional roll-out of the Veloz Hybrid, which seemingly includes Malaysia.
