Proton has just launched the new 2026 Proton Saga MC3 in Malaysia. This comes less than a month since bookings were opened in early-November.
Overview
As noted during the preview, Proton will be offering three variants of the brand-new Saga – Standard, Executive, and Premium.

Prices start from RM 38,990 for the Standard while the Executive is priced from RM 44,990. The top-spec Premium, with all the bells and whistles, is priced from RM 49,990.
For units registered before 31-December 2025, Proton is offering a RM 1,000 discount, thus reducing the OTR price to:
- Standard: RM 37,990
- Executive: RM 43,990
- Premium: RM 48,990
All prices are on-the-road, without insurance.
Proton is also offering:
- Pro-Trade-In: Overtrade support worth up to RM 1,500 (Valid until 31-December 2025)
- Pro-Xchange: Overtrade support worth up to RM 2,000 (Valid until 31-December 2025)
- Pro-Finance: Special financing with rates starting from 2.6% (Valid until 31-December 2025)
- Pro-Shield: Upgraded Proton Insurance Programme, special perils insurance, upgraded flood relief worth up to RM 2,000, Personal Accident Coverage for Passengers worth up to RM 1,500 per person
The debut of the new Saga also marks a shift of production from Shah Alam to Tanjong Malim. Historically, since the first-ever Saga, production was done at the Shah Alam plant, but due to the imminent closure of the Shah Alam plant, production has shifted to Tanjong Malim.
Exterior

For the first-time ever, the Proton Saga gets full-LED headlights; not the reflector type, but full-on projectors. Not reflector LEDs like the X50, X70, or X90. The new LED headlights are nestled on top of a new full-width front grille with what Proton calls the ‘Sulaman Songket’ motifs, as well as Proton’s signature Ethereal Bow chrome strip.

Moving towards the rear-end and the 2026 Proton Saga MC3 gets a full-width LED tail light (Premium only), new Saga typefont and new i-GT emblem. The bottom of the rear bumper gets diffuser-like pieces and a provision spot for a rear fog light. Look really close and you might even spot the raised boot lid, giving Proton’s entry-level sedan a very matured look. The shark fin antenna’s new too.
Colour options for the all-new 2026 Proton Saga include Armour Silver, Ruby Red, Snow White, Space Grey and Deep Marine Blue – the latter two are new for the 2026 Proton Saga MC3.

The base Standard variant gets a set of 14-inch silver-finish alloy wheels, while the Executive receives a set of 15-inch silver-finish alloy wheels. The top-spec Premium gets the same 15-inch wheels as the Executive, albeit with a dual-tone finishing.
Interior

Also overhauled is the cabin of the 2026 Proton Saga MC3 – there’s now a dual integrated display set up that measures 16 inches – there’s the brand-new digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, the latter now with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The steering wheel is also new to the Saga, with the overall design of the steering wheel mostly lifted wholesale from the Proton X50, barring the cruise control buttons. As such, the leather-wrapped steering wheel gets a flat bottom for that added sporty appeal.
The revised dashboard also meant that the air-conditioning vents are now equal in height – previous models had the middle blower lower in position relative to the two side ones.

Other new bits include a simple-to-operate air-conditioning panel with buttons for door lock/unlock, rear demister, hazard light, stability control, and front parking sensors. The new centre console also gets a USB port and a ‘teh tarik’ hook for added convenience.

Proton also gave the new 2026 Saga MC3 redesigned seats, which are said to be wide and longer than before. There’s also height-adjustable rear headrests – something not found on the more expensive Persona (Premium variant only).

Powertrain

Perhaps the headlining feature of the new 2026 Proton Saga is the new Intelligent Green Technology (i-GT) 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, sourced from Aurobay – a powertrain specialist parked under Horse Powertrain Limited, a subsidiary of Geely and Renault.
This new engine, codenamed BHE15-CFN, outputs 120 PS and 150 Nm – a noticeable jump compared to the ageing CamPro powertrain. This power output puts the Saga on part with some larger B-segment models, like the Honda City.

Crucially, Proton added that engine uses the Atkinson cycle (more efficient than Otto cycle), as well as a dual variable valve timing (DVVT) and electric water pump thermal management. Together, these bits help reduce fuel consumption by 14.04%. Under the MDC test cycle, the 2026 Proton Saga returns between 4.9 L/100 km (CVT) to 5.1 L/100 km (4AT).
The 2026 Proton Saga MC3 is also the second model in their line-up to feature a timing chain, with the first being the updated Proton X50. The BHE15-CFN features a dual mass flywheel and toothed timing chain, which are claimed to reduce noise levels by 25.24% compared to regular roller timing chain.
