Perodua used car inspection centre underway, set to be national centre

At the sides of the Perodua Traz preview event last weekend, Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad revealed that they are on track with their used car export plans.

That’s right – Perodua is working on exporting used cars out of Malaysia, similar to what countries like the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Japan do. This is to ensure that Malaysia’s total industry volume (TIV) can grow in a meaningful manner, as ageing cars are phased out – either via exports or scrapped – to make more room for new car sales.

Zambia and Maldives could receive used Perodua vehicles

According to Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin, “We have new countries, we are (now) in the final stages (of discussion) with Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, and also Maldives. (Maldives) have also been asking for our used car exports. We have done the surveys and engaged with the potential partners, but we have to do our own assessments with regards to their seriousness to accept our vehicles.”

A couple of months back, we reported that Perodua have begun exports of their used cars to Bangladesh and are looking into Kenya and Mozambique as additional countries to export to.

Now, Zambia and Maldives are likely going to be the next recipients to get Perodua’s used cars from Malaysia. Your used Myvi or Axia could find new life in the Sub-Saharan region in the near future.

Perodua’s used vehicle inspection centre underway

To facilitate its used car exports, Perodua is in the midst of setting up its own used car inspection centre. “So far, our export certification (Which we now have at Perodua), and MaRii is currently inspecting and auditing (our inspection centre). Once we’ve gotten the approval, our (used vehicle) inspection centre will become the centre of used car exports,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.

Which other markets do Perodua export to?

At the time of writing, Perodua exports to Brunei, Mauritius, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Bangladesh, Papua Nei Guinea, and Indonesia – the latter is probably the only market where a Perodua model is rebadged as a Daihatsu (Perodua Myvi is sold there as the Daihatsu Sirion).

2025 has been a busy year for Perodua and its ever-growing exports, as this year marked the arrival of the Alza and Ativa in Mauritius, as well as Ativa and Myvi in Sri Lanka back in October.
