Chery Malaysia hits 30,073 sales in under three years, thanks Malaysians for support

Chery Malaysia has reached a major milestone less than three years after re-entering the local market, recording 30,073 cumulative vehicle sales by the end of 2025. The achievement underscores strong customer acceptance and positions Chery as one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing automotive brands in recent years.

The brand’s momentum was already evident early on. Within its first six months in 2023, Chery delivered 4,501 vehicles between June and December. That pace continued to build year-on-year, culminating in a strong 2025 performance with 12,930 units delivered to Malaysian customers.

Expanding product line-up fuels growth

Chery’s growth trajectory in Malaysia closely mirrors its global strategy, starting with internal combustion engine (ICE) models before rapidly transitioning into electrified mobility.

The brand made its local debut with the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro, before entering the EV space with the Omoda E5 in March 2024. Since then, Chery has significantly expanded its portfolio with the Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo Cross Turbo, and Tiggo Cross HEV, followed by its first plug-in hybrid offerings in the form of the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV.

Each launch reinforced Chery’s focus on advanced safety systems, premium features, and future-ready powertrains tailored to Malaysian buyers.

At the centre of Chery Malaysia’s success is the Omoda 5, launched in 2023. The model quickly became the brand’s best-seller and played a key role in establishing Chery’s foothold in the competitive local market.

Building on that momentum, the Tiggo series was introduced to cater to a broader customer base, from young families to buyers prioritising space and comfort. Initially offered with ICE powertrains, the Tiggo range rapidly evolved to include HEV and PHEV variants within the same year, powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid (CSH) technology.

Today, the Tiggo line-up spans six models and remains a major contributor to Chery Malaysia’s sales performance in 2025, especially amid a market shift towards new energy vehicles.

Community engagement beyond sales

Beyond product and sales growth, Chery Malaysia has also been active in community-focused initiatives.

Following the fire incident in Putra Heights, Selangor, Chery stepped in to assist affected residents by loaning vehicles to 50 homeowners. The support was delivered within the same week, enabling families to manage daily mobility needs, relocate temporarily, and transport belongings during the recovery period.

The brand has also contributed to national development through its support of the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Chery’s involvement in initiatives such as the Asian Youth Para Games and the Paris Olympic Games highlights its commitment to inclusivity and athlete development.

In addition, Chery Malaysia partnered with the Belia Mahir Project to help bridge the gap between education and employment, providing skilled graduates with opportunities to enter the automotive workforce.

Malaysia as a regional manufacturing hub

Looking ahead, Chery Malaysia’s growth will be supported by the upcoming Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor. The RM 2.2 billion facility spans over 200 acres and forms a key pillar of Chery’s long-term localisation and manufacturing strategy.

The plant is expected to enhance local production capacity, strengthen supply chains, and create economic opportunities, with its first phase scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.

Global momentum continues

Chery Malaysia’s performance reflects the wider success of the Chery Group globally. In 2025, the Group recorded 2.806 million vehicle sales, a 7.8 percent year-on-year increase, while retaining its position as China’s top vehicle exporter with 1.344 million units shipped.

Growth was driven by progress across five strategic pillars, including new energy vehicles, global expansion, strategic partnerships, and accelerated innovation in electrification and intelligent systems.

With Chery’s rising global profile, including its ranking of 233rd on the Fortune Global 500 and its successful Hong Kong listing, the Group enters 2026 focused on steady, sustainable growth ahead of the broader industry.
