2026 Volvo ES90 launched in Malaysia: CKD EV sedan with 333 PS, 651 km WLTP, RM 339,888

Following the opening of the registration of interest (ROI) back in early-January, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has launched the new 2026 Volvo ES90 in Malaysia. Malaysia is the third market after Singapore and Thailand to launch the ES90 in this region.

Overview

The 2026 Volvo ES90 is Volvo’s flagship EV sedan. For the Malaysian market, the ES90 is the new flagship torchbearer, as VCM doesn’t currently offer the facelifted Volvo S90 here.

The sole Ultra variant offered in Malaysia is priced at RM 339,888 (on-the-road, without insurance). Early bird promo includes a 2% rebate on the price of the ES90, valid for bookings until 31-March 2026. Fleet purchases, on the other hand, get an 8% rebate.

Exterior

There’s no mistaking the 2026 Volvo ES90 with any other model on the market – the design is quintessentially Scandinavian, with its Thor hammer LED headlights sitting on both ends of the front fascia. The Volvo logo sits proudly up front, albeit without any grilles like other ICE models.

Towards the rear, the ES90 adopts a pair of C-shaped LED tail lights, similar to the Volvo S60 and Volvo S90. Unlike the S90, the ES90’s number plate recess is on the tailgate itself.

What separates the ES90 from regular sedans is its rear-opening hatch, akin to a hatchback. Volvo says makes it easy to load and unload item from the boot. Speaking of boot, the ES90 offers a 446-litre boot, which can be expanded to 904 litres with the rear seats folded down. Additionally, there’s a 27-litre frunk – ideal for storing the car’s charging cables.

Colour options include Crystal White, Denim Blue, Onyx Black, and Vapour Grey.

Interior

The interior of the Volvo ES90 is well-equipped with Nappa leather upholstery, front and seats with heating and ventilating function, power-reclining rear seats, as well as a massage function for the driver seat.

Meanwhile, audio is backed by a 1,610-watt, 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins High Fidelity Audio System that supports Dolby Atmos. Infotainment duties are supported by a 14.5-inch display that features the current Volvo Car UX with built-in support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Powertrain

Motivation comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor that does 245 kW (333 PS) and 480 Nm, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.6 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

Said motor is juiced by a CATL-sourced 92-kWh (88-kWh usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack. Volvo quotes a WLTP range of 651 km.

The 2026 Volvo ES90 is developed on an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing this EV sedan to DC fast charge up to 350 kW. A quick 10-minute charge can add 300 km range, while the 10% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) can be achieved in about 22 minutes.

AC charging is capped at 11 kW – slower than rivals Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5, both of which can do up to 22 kW AC charging.
