Honda has released preliminary information surrounding its new-generation Honda Insight, which is expected to be launched in Japan in Spring (late-March to April).
Unlike the previous ZE4-generation Honda Insight that was based on the FC-generation Civic, the new-generation Honda Insight will be based on the China market Honda e:NP2. This is Honda Japan’s first model to be derived from a Chinese model, though not the first model outside of Japan. Recall that the Honda e:N1 sold here is derived from the Chinese market Honda e:NS1 and eNP1.
Similarly, the Honda e:NP2 has a twin in China called the Honda e:NS2. The e:NP2 is manufactured by GAC Honda, while the Honda e:NS2 is manufactured by Dongfeng Honda.
Regardless of which Chinese arm manufactures the model, the e:NP2 gets a front-mounted electric motor that does 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm, powered by a 68.8-kWh ternary lithium battery pack soured from CATL. Under the lenient CLTC test cycle, the e:NP2 (and its e:NS2 sibling) is claimed to return up to 545 km.
In terms of equipment, the Insight model page reveals several, including a head-up display (HUD), Drive mode switch (Sport / Normal / Econ / Snow), deceleration selector, heated and ventilated front seats, Bose Premium Sound System, ambient lighting, and even a built-in dashcam.
Outside of Japan, the same model is expected to wear the Honda e:N2 nameplate, following up from the e:N1.
What about Malaysia?
Considering the fact that the model is called the e:N2 outside of Japan, there might be a slim chance of the e:N2 reaching Malaysian shores in the near future.
After all, our neighbours in Thailand just received the model, with bookings for the model just opened today. Granted, Honda Malaysia would need to locally-assemble (CKD) the model here in order to price it competitively enough, as the EV tax holiday for CBU EVs ended on 31-December 2025.
