Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has just launched the new 2026 Jaecoo J5 in the country. This new B-segment SUV is the company’s most affordable model in their line-up.
Overview
The 2026 Jaecoo J5 made its public preview back in August 2025, subsequently previewed at a number of locations before its official launch today.

For the Malaysian market, Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia is offering just one variant of the 2026 Jaecoo J5, priced at RM 108,000 (on-the-road, without insurance). The 2026 Jaecoo J5 is locally-assembled (CKD) at the Shah Alam facility.
This B-segment SUV enters a hotly-contested segment currently occupied by models such as the Proton X50, Perodua Traz, Honda HR-V, and Mitsubishi Xforce.
In conjunction with the launch, Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia is offering a Special Launch package (valid from 5-March to 15-March) that consists of:
- Duit Raya Rebate worth RM 3,000
- Complimentary 1-year warranty or additional Duit Raya Rebate worth RM 3,000
- J5 Car Accessories Trio Package valued at RM 2,000
With the Special Launch package, the 2026 Jaecoo J5’s price is effectively reduced to RM 102,000.
The J5 Car Accessories Trio Package consists of:
- Subwoofer
- Wireless karaoke microphone
- Multi-functional flashlight
Exterior

Much of the exterior design of the 2026 Jaecoo J5 is shrunken down from the larger Jaecoo J7. As such, the smaller J5 also gets a large rectangular front grille with a number of vertical slats, flanked by a pair of LED projector headlights. The Jaecoo J5 also gets laminated windows for the front windows – something unheard of at this price segment.

Ditto that for the rear – the smaller J5 gets a Range Rover-esque rear-end, though without the full-width LED light bar like the J7. That said, similar to the larger J7, the J5 also gets the JAECOO inscription on the number plate garnish.

A set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55R18 tyres are fitted as standard.
In terms of dimensions, the 2026 Jaecoo J5 measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,620 mm long. For context, the current-generation Honda HR-V measures 4,385 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,590 mm tall, with a 2,610 mm long wheelbase.
Colour options include Canyon Black, Glacier Blue, Snowy White, and Zircon Grey.
Interior

The same theme continues onto the cabin – the 2026 Jaecoo J5 gets a 13.2-inch portrait-style infotainment display with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Beneath the infotainment display are three physical buttons for Drive mode, hazard lights, and a door lock button. There’s also a ventilated 50W Qi wireless charging pad.
Other equipment include automatic dual-zone air-conditioning, power-adjustable front seats with ventilation function, 8.0-inch segmented digital driver display, and faux leather upholstery.

Powertrain

While our neighbours in Thailand and Indonesia receive the Jaecoo J5 as a BEV, we get a turbocharged 1.5-litre unit instead.

Here, the four-cylinder petrol engine churns out 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired to a CVT-type automatic transmission. These figures are identical to the Chery Tiggo Cross, though the Tiggo Cross gets a six-speed dual-clutch automatic instead.
