Say hello to the 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV. This is the second model that UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has launched today, with the others being the 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV and the 2026 Toyota bZ4X.
Overview
The 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is the first Toyota model to be imported (CBU) from India, and the first Suzuki-engineered model to be offered in the country. Recall that the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is a rebadged version of the Suzuki e Vitara.
Priced at RM 198,000 (on-the-road, without insurance), UMWT is offering just one variant of the Urban Cruiser BEV.
This B-segment EV SUV is Toyota’s entry-level EV and is positioned below the bZ4x.
Exterior
The Urban Cruiser’s front end is defined by a “hammerhead” design with slim LED daytime running lights and turn indicators arranged horizontally, paired with a bi-LED projector headlight unit. A gloss black lower bumper accentuates the car’s wide stance. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar wraps into the car’s shoulders, with parallel LED elements creating a distinctive light signature.
Aerodynamic efficiency is a key consideration throughout the exterior design. The roofline is optimised to reduce drag, and the 18-inch alloy wheels — shod with 225/55 R18 tyres — feature an aerodynamically tuned cover to minimise rolling resistance. Strong wheel arch mouldings and lower body cladding reinforce the SUV character.
The 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV measure 4,285mm long, 1,800mm wide, and 1,635mm tall on a 2,700mm wheelbase.
Colour options include Pearl Arctic White, Pearl Bluish Black, Grandeur Grey, and Land Breeze Green.
Interior
The driver faces a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, which can display content from the centre screen on its left and right sections. A separate 10.1-inch HD LCD infotainment touchscreen sits alongside, offering five switchable screens covering air-conditioning, driver assistance settings, charging schedule, EV settings, and vehicle settings.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is standard, as is a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system. Variable-colour ambient lighting is available in 12 colours across seven brightness levels.
Front seats use a combination of perforated synthetic leather, breathable melange jersey, and brown synthetic leather. The rear seat features a sliding system adjustable between 807mm and 967mm of legroom with reclining backrests. Boot capacity ranges from 238 litres to 562 litres depending on rear seat position, extending to a floor length of 1,455mm with all backrests folded. A glass roof with sunshade is fitted as standard.
Convenience features include wireless smartphone charging on the centre console, additional USB ports, two rear USB ports (Type A and Type C), a rear centre armrest with two cupholders, and an electric parking brake (EPB) with brake hold function. Practicality is aided by a split-folding 40:20:40 rear seats.
Powertrain
The Urban Cruiser is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 128 kW (174 PS) and 193 Nm, driving the front wheels through a single-speed reduction gear. The FinDream-sourced 61.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a claimed range of up to 426 km WLTP on a full charge.
DC fast charging from 15% to 80% takes approximately 50 minutes, while AC charging at 7kW from 15% to 100% takes approximately 9.5 hours. A “My Room” charging mode allows the air conditioning and audio system to remain active while charging is in progress.
Three primary driving modes are available — ECO, Normal, and Sport — selected via a dial-type shift selector. A Pedal Mode with three levels of regenerative braking deceleration is also available, as is a Snow Mode that moderates torque delivery on slippery surfaces.
