Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology – the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the well-known G-Wagon.
As the name suggests, the G580 with EQ Technology is the BEV version, which ditches the internal combustion engine in favour of a full-electric one.
What powertrain does the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ get?

The G580 EQ features a grand total of four electric motor – two on each axle. Each motor in the G580 EQ gets its own two-speed transmission that’s built into a shared housing, which enables the G580 EQ to offer high- and low-range gearing like any capable 4×4.
With a total of four electric motors, it enables this electric 4×4 to perform the G-Turn, which allows it to spin 720 degrees on the right surfaces.

Total system output is 579 PS and 1,164 Nm of torque, enabling this 3-tonne SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 180 km/h. The torque figure is even higher than a purebred AMG, mind you.
All that power comes from a 116-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 216 cells installed in 12 cell modules between three cooling levels. Said battery is integrated into the ladder frame, protected with a torsion-resistant casing.

WLTP-rated range of the G580 EQ is up to 473 km, and it supports both AC and DC charging. AC charging is supported up to 11 kW, while DC fast-charging goes up to 200 kW, allowing the G580 EQ to charge from 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in around 32 minutes.

Being part of the G-Class family means that the G580 EQ also gets off-road capabilities. In this case, the G580 EQ offers 250 mm of ground clearance, 32 degrees of approach angle, and 850 mm water fording depth – 150 mm more than G-Class models with a traditional ICE powertrain.
What equipment does the G580 with EQ get?

Like other EQ-branded models, the G580 EQ also gets model-specific design elements, including an illuminated front grille, round headlights with black surrounds, raise bonnet, A-pillar with cladding, spoiler lip, and a rear-mounted storage box for the charging cable, replacing the spare wheel. A set of 20-inch AMG alloy wheels come as standard as well.

Inside, the Malaysian-spec G580 EQ gets the Superior Line trim with black Nappa leather upholstery, coupled with AMG carbon fibre bits, and Manufaktur seat belts and door grab handles. The Offroad Cockpit that’s nestled between both circular air vents now feature controls for G Functions, ie G-Turn.

Elsewhere, the G580 EQ’s standard equipment include adaptive damping suspension, Electric Dynamic Select drive modes, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Pre-Safe system, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, and emergency call system.

For the Malaysian market, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ is priced from RM 958,888 (on-the-road, without insurance). A more exclusive Edition One variant is also available for an additional RM 40k, bumping the retail price to RM 998,888. The Edition One gets exclusive variant-specific badging, matte black finishing on the side mirrors and running boards, blue stitching on the steering wheel and even blue carbon fibre finishing.
